    Job summary

    To work as a key member of the antimicrobial stewardship team to ensure antimicrobials are used appropriately across the Trust. This is an opportunity to build and expand on existing clinical knowledge, communication and organisational skills.

    To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team alongside microbiology and the infection prevention team to ensure prudent use of antibiotic and to prevent hospital associated infections.

    To promote antimicrobial stewardship across the Trust and support other antimicrobial related services to avoid/reduce hospital admissions such as the intravenous therapy team

    To support the Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist in the various aspects of antimicrobial stewardship key activities - development of evidence based guidelines, development of safety/antimicrobial stewardship measures within electronic prescribing system, leading on audits, antimicrobials reviews, other quality improvement projects and education

    To monitor and advise on the control of Divisional medication expenditure on antimicrobials

    To fulfill role as a Non Medical Prescriber within specialist area. (Subject to necessary qualification)

    Main duties of the job

    We are looking for an individual with motivation and enthusiasm to deliver the antimicrobial stewardship agenda and in conjunction with the Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist. You will work closely with the Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist to support antimicrobials management across the Trust. You will develop skills within a specialist antimicrobial role whilst building upon proven clinical skills.

    The Pharmacy department has a strong commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and has embedded effective medicines management systems into patient care. You will contribute to new initiatives and promote and implement best antimicrobial stewardship practice Trust wide. You will have opportunities to supervise rotational pharmacists and undertake your own journey of personal development to achieve career ambitions.

    You will work closely with the Consultant Microbiologists and Control of Infection team to promote clinical and cost-effective prescribing through evidence based guidelines.

    Experience

    Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years post registration experience within hospital Pharmacy
  • Experience in clinical Pharmacy with knowledge of the therapeutics of common disease state
  • Previous experience of teamworking
  • Experience in the development of policies, guidelines and procedures
