The post holder's key relationships will be with:

Internal:
Head of Neuropsychology, clinical leads, interdisciplinary team members and other University Hospital Sussex healthcare professional.


External:
Service users, families, carers, healthcare professionals in other organisation

  • To provide a specialist clinical neuropsychology service to patients within the catchment area of the University Hospital Sussex NHS Trust.
  • To offer advice and consultation on neuropsychological care to members of the multidisciplinary team, allied professionals, carers and significant others.
  • Where appropriate, to work autonomously within professional practice guidelines.
  • Where appropriate, to assist in the development of specialist services and clinics within the University Hospital Sussex neuropsychology pathway.
  • Where appropriate, to undertake teaching, supervision and training of other neuropsychology staff and students.
  • Where appropriate, to undertake service evaluation, audit and research as required.

Main


Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • To provide specialist neuropsychological assessment of adults with a range of neurological conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumour, encephalitis among others.
  • To integrate information gained from assessment with feedback from the MDT and family/carers, case history and clinical interview into a neuropsychological formulation that informs treatment plans.
  • To undertake a range of psychological interventions based on multiple therapeutic models to support service users and their families in adjusting to the cognitive, emotional and behavioural consequences of brain injury.
  • To carry out complex capacity assessments, often at short-notice, assessing service users' capacity to make decisions such as leaving the unit against medical advice, or choosing their discharge destination.
  • To conduct detailed qualitative observations using appropriate tools and measures in order to inform diagnosis and clinical interventions. Some of this activity will involve joint working with other professionals.
  • To manage own work load appropriately and autonomously and meet deadlines within the framework of the service policies and procedures.
  • To attend and feedback to weekly MDT meetings and other MDT rehabilitation planning meetings with service users and their families.
  • To maintain a high standard of test administration, clinical record keeping and report writing according to professional and Trust guidelines.
