Internal:
Head of Neuropsychology, clinical leads, interdisciplinary team members and other University Hospital Sussex healthcare professional.

External:
Service users, families, carers, healthcare professionals in other organisation

To provide a specialist clinical neuropsychology service to patients within the catchment area of the University Hospital Sussex NHS Trust.
To offer advice and consultation on neuropsychological care to members of the multidisciplinary team, allied professionals, carers and significant others.
Where appropriate, to work autonomously within professional practice guidelines.
Where appropriate, to assist in the development of specialist services and clinics within the University Hospital Sussex neuropsychology pathway.
Where appropriate, to undertake teaching, supervision and training of other neuropsychology staff and students.
Where appropriate, to undertake service evaluation, audit and research as required.

Main

Responsibilities:

Clinical

To provide specialist neuropsychological assessment of adults with a range of neurological conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumour, encephalitis among others.
To integrate information gained from assessment with feedback from the MDT and family/carers, case history and clinical interview into a neuropsychological formulation that informs treatment plans.
To undertake a range of psychological interventions based on multiple therapeutic models to support service users and their families in adjusting to the cognitive, emotional and behavioural consequences of brain injury.
To carry out complex capacity assessments, often at short-notice, assessing service users' capacity to make decisions such as leaving the unit against medical advice, or choosing their discharge destination.
To conduct detailed qualitative observations using appropriate tools and measures in order to inform diagnosis and clinical interventions. Some of this activity will involve joint working with other professionals.
To manage own work load appropriately and autonomously and meet deadlines within the framework of the service policies and procedures.
To attend and feedback to weekly MDT meetings and other MDT rehabilitation planning meetings with service users and their families.
To maintain a high standard of test administration, clinical record keeping and report writing according to professional and Trust guidelines.
