    Looking to begin a career inecology

    From March/April 2024FPCR will be hiring Seasonal Assistant Ecologists to help with theupcoming survey season based out of our regional office in Dorking(South East).

    We will be offering both full timecontracts for those looking to get stuck into a rewarding newcareer and casualhours contracts for those who need moreflexibility. We may also be offering limited opportunities to joinpermanently at the end of the season.

    This is anexcellent opportunity for individuals to develop practical surveyand mitigation skills for different species and habitats.Additionally our friendly and busy office provides experience intechnical report writing and data presentation. While we offer amix of officebased and remote work new assistants will initially berequired to attend the office fulltime to receive proper trainingand guidance from colleagues. The Assistant Ecologist role willprimarily include fieldwork but we aim to offer a diverse range ofopportunities such as project management report preparation anddata processing.

    What is the jobrole

    You will be predominantly outin the field undertaking protected species surveys and habitatcreation works. Full on the job training will be provided andtraining towards protected species licences can also be provided.As well as field work there may be some opportunity to gainvaluable office experience including planning surveys and QGISwork.

    Please note that the nature of our workwill require you to work outside of normal office hours. Thisincludes field surveys for bats during evenings and early mornings.You will also be required to travel throughout the UK mainlySouthern England with occasional overnight stays. During ourbusiest periods all ecologists are expected to work overtime whichis paid at standard hourly rates. Additionally all businessexpenses will be reimbursed.

    Whatdo we need fromyou

    • Candidates must bewell organised with an enthusiastic and motivated attitude
    • A keen interest in ecology and conservation.
    • The ability to record field data reliably andaccurately to a consistent and high standard
    • The ability to communicate well and workeffectively as part of a team
    • Candidatesshould be familiar with wildlife legislation within the UK andideally have a basic understanding of the planning system andplanning policy guidance
    • A full drivinglicence and access to a vehicle is necessary and you must have orbe prepared to add Business Use to your car insurance policy
    • Have or be workings towards a qualification inan environmental subject
    • You may also beproficient with software such as QGIS.
    • You mayalready have experience of undertaking UK habitat and/or protectedspecies surveys
    • You have a good understandingof British native species wildlife legislation and planning policyrelating to ecology.
    • You may be a member ofCIEEM.
