- Participate in data preparation and analysis, to help to target areas where pro-active maintenance would be most beneficial.
- A good understanding of the companies DOMS strategy and our participation with PODDS would also be beneficial.
- Make decisions on network arrangements and activities, supporting the capital and direct delivery schemes where necessary.
- Comment on and assess the suitability of risk assessments and method statements for planned works with regard to water quality and customer impact.
- Investigate unusual sample results and reported unusual events / observations on the Network and advise on the best course of action to a satisfactory resolution.
- Work with the Operational Science team to ensure water quality risks are managed and consistent messages are communicated across the Companies regions.
- Liaise with the drinking water safety plan scientists to ensure any change in risk are reported accurately in regulatory submissions.
- Complete audits both internally and of supply partners on water quality and hygiene procedures and practices, reporting outcomes and following actions up to completion.
- Ensure that all health and safety obligations are met to promote an environment of zero harm.
- A recognised science degree, higher national certificate or equivalent qualification ideally in chemistry or biology or any other associated science. Chartership or a plan to become charted is desirable.
- A good understanding of drinking water regulation and water quality standards are essential.
- Good communication skills are critical for success in this role. It's essential that the successful candidate can communicate and work collaboratively with people across multiple departments and backgrounds including with our quality regulator.
- Good time management skills are essential as is your attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Practiced at risk management to identify, quantify, control and monitor significant business risk.
- Full/Clean/Manual Driving Licence.
- IT Literate - experience using Maximo & GIS is desirable.
- Salary £50,000
- Stand-by - 1 in 12 (when fully qualified in role)
- Hours of Work: 08:00am - 16:00pm (Monday to Thursday) 08:00am - 15:30pm (Friday)

The Role:
As a Operations Scientist you will support our activities to ensure that we continue to supply high quality wholesome drinking water to our 3.89 million customers, ensuring that best practice is understood and followed in our everyday activities.
This role will require the successful candidate to participate on the Operations Scientist Standby roster, covering the whole Company area for Customer Experience matters (Network and Production) where experience is required 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You'll also be required to act as the Water Quality representative at Silver Command level during company emergencies and incidents.
