Full-time, Fixed Term appointment to 31st December 2024

Based in Liverpool with occasional travel overseas


The postholder will contribute to ongoing malaria studies in the design and analysis to support the development and deployment of statistical tools in partnership with study stakeholders.

The post will involve statistical / epidemiological research, statistical support and analysis, and scientific/paper writing.

There will be an opportunity to develop own areas of research interest and to focus on specific areas of work.


The key responsibilities include:


  • Statistical Support: Perform independent statistical analyses on data generated by the project or partners, advise and assist the research teams and partners on study design and analytic approaches, provide short training to other members of the team on methods and programming such as use of reproducible pipelines, model calibration, R software, git, and liaise with project partners on design and analysis decisions.
  • Enhance Statistical Components: Engage with external stakeholders and partners to communicate methods, approaches and findings whilst participating in regional, national, and international level collaborations and meetings. Contribute to the capacity development in biostatistics, epidemiology, or statistical programming of partners, and to the supervision of PhD and/or Master's project students.
  • General; To contribute to LSTM research with an emphasis on the development and practice of statistical and epidemiological expertise to biomedical research projects, to keep up to date with major developments in approaches or methods to malaria trials and adhere to GCP data protection regulations and ethical standards.
  • PhD in related research area (e.g., biostatistics, medical statistics, epidemiology related to malaria)
  • Experience of statistics or epidemiology in applied research, ideally with experience in malaria research.
  • Record in published research in field of epidemiology or statistics
  • Knowledge of biostatistics related to malaria and knowledge of malaria.
  • Experience with analysis of entomological data and vector control tool trial implementation.
  • Statistical programming expertise in R.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to travel overseas.
