Junior IT Security Analyst

Remote (home based) role

Salary:
£25, ,000.00


The role of the junior IT Information and Cyber Security Analyst is to assist the IT Security Manager with the protection and maintenance of the IT Cyber Security environment.

You will monitor networks and systems, detect security threats ('events'), analyse,and assess alarms, and report on threats, intrusion attempts and false alarms, either resolving them or escalating them, depending on the severity.

This person will need to have 6+ months experience in a cyber security focused role.


Main duties and responsibilities:


  • Assist the Information Security Manager
- research/evaluate emerging cyber security threats and ways to manage them within the business

  • Assist in planning for disaster recovery and the creation of contingency plans in the event of any security breaches
- monitor for attacks, intrusions and unusual, unauthorised, or illegal activity through internal solutions and external SOC
- use analytic tools to determine emerging threat patterns & vulnerabilities & identify potential weaknesses
- investigate security alerts and provide incident response
- monitor identity and access management, including for abuse of permissions by authorised system users
- liaise with stakeholders in relation to cyber security issues and provide future recommendations
- generate reports for both technical and non-technical staff and stakeholders
- maintain an information security risk register and assist with internal and external audits
- assist with the creation, maintenance, and delivery of cyber security awareness training for colleagues

  • Assist in the remediation of security issues via the service desk ticket system

Person specification
- a passion for cyber security and a keen interest in IT

  • Knowledge of a SIEM technology such as Sentinel, Splunk, Log Rhythm, or Securonic
  • Knowledge of the role of the Security Operations Centre (SOC)
- knowledge of the information security principles
- time-management and organisational skills to manage a variety of tasks and meet deadlines
- understanding of standard information security baseline frameworks, business continuity, and disaster recovery protocols and best practices, and knowledge of infrastructure monitoring tools such as Palo Alto Firewalls, Microsoft Defender, Sentinel Siem,NESSUS.

  • Exposure to ITIL (Incident/Change Management)
- an ability to work under pressure, particularly when dealing with threats and at times of high demand


Qualifications

Required for current role:

  • Minimum 6 month experience working in similar role
  • Cyber security qualifications desirable
