    Job summary

    A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced paediatric nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team. We are a well-established service caring for both local children and those in the wider Yorkshire region.

    We are linked to the new born Screening Service in Leeds which covers all babies born in Yorkshire. Our base is St Luke's Hospital in Bradford but a lot of our work is undertaken in the community at the family home, nursery or school. We have three MDT out-patient clinics each week. We endeavour to support the child and family in their home and implement specialist treatments when necessary to prevent hospitalisation. To come and join our team you will need to have excellent clinical and communication skills be able to work autonomously, have enthusiasm to learn and be looking to take on new challenges.

    As part of our team you will educate and support families at diagnosis and throughout the child and families' journey including transition to Adult Services. You will support the child, family and local teams in the child's community. We will support you to build upon your existing knowledge, working as part of our IMD team to deliver a service that is led by the needs of the child and family.

    Main duties of the job

    You will have responsibility for a defined caseload (patients/service-users) and will provide an effective and high quality patient-focused service that is sensitive to the needs of users and providers.

    You will provide clinical, social and psychological support to their patients/service-users using excellent communication skills, education and health promotion to enable them to reach their optimum level of independence and health.

    You will provide specialist advice, supervision and support to a defined caseload (patients/service-users/staff).

    Experience

    Essential

  • Significant post-registration experience, including experience of working with children and families with underlying metabolic conditions.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients/service-users/staff demonstrating knowledge of specific needs
  • Desirable

  • Experience of participating in clinical audit
  • Experience in policy development
  • Experience of developing innovative practice
  • Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries
  • Skills

    Essential

  • Report writing / Presentation skills
  • Computer literate - ability to use Word/Excel/PowerPoint, etc.
  • Clinical credibility
