Baseline Recruit is thrilled to be supporting the recruitment of RDC General Manager for a fantastic retailer in the Essex area.

This permanent role is responsible for all functions within the RDC including Transport, Ambient, Chilled and Frozen Warehousing,HR, and Finance and reports to the UK&I Director of Distribution.


Key Duties and responsibilities:


  • Overall accountability of the RDC operation including in house Warehouse, Transport, HR and Finance teams.
  • Take ownership of processes, systems, and step change, making sure they're effective and efficient.
  • Achieve great results by inspiring, engaging, and leading others; to make colleagues in both the Distribution Centre and the wider supporting networks, feel both valued and appreciated so they operate at their best.
  • Take an active role in the usage of technology understanding that it's key to the organisation's future success.
  • To be the custodian of site costs and responsible for the overall operational and financial performance of the site, against an agreed budget, across all areas.
  • Lead a large, diverse operational team of over 500 team members, whilst driving effective communication and engagement with all colleagues.
  • Drive Health and Safety initiatives on site, always ensuring that the teams commit to the Company's safety vision.
  • Define and implement continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring the site constantly looks for ways to enhance performance and service to customers and key stakeholders.
  • Coach and develop colleagues through a robust and challenging sets of objectives, work planning, performance reviews and regular communication sessions.
  • Ensure the site achieves its goals by supporting, coaching, and enabling immediate reports to effectively manage their wider teams.
  • Continuously challenge central and commercial functions about cost to serve, distribution model, channels etc
  • React on process abnormalities and implement improvement actions plans to address any deviations.
  • Manage the departmental output versus budgetary constraints and review weekly with the Operations, Transport, Finance, Stock and HR leadership team.
  • Ensure the distribution team are trained and are legally compliant.
  • Develop good working partnership with external Labour Providers to ensure key service and cost KPIs are achieved, and relationships prosper.
**In order to be considered for this role, you will have: **- Extensive experience in a similar distribution centre management role.

  • Transport services and operations (including international).
  • Lean process optimisation methods.
  • Inventory and Stock Control management experience in a highvolume fast paced FMCG, Dry Grocery and Chilled environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of Reporting & Analytics: (MS Office).
  • Proven people management and engagement, driving a positive site culture.
  • Effective and proactive communication across all mediums to a wide audience, up to and including Board level.
  • Demonstrated success with continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated success through engagement survey.
  • H&S systems. IOSH qualified (minimum).
  • HR employment law and legal awareness preferred but not essential.
  • Systems knowledge and experience of WMS, Microlise, Quortex, tachomaster preferred but not essential.
