    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our clinical team as a Salaried GP (6-8 sessions depending on availability).

    Riversdale Surgery have been providing Family Medicine in the East Tyne Valley, Northumberland for over 100 years. We are a long established 2 Partner Training Practice based at Oaklands Medical Centre, Prudhoe.

    We have approximately 6,000 patients.

    Peer support is an essential component of enjoyable primary care. We will make you feel valued as part of our team from the start. We encourage daily coffee breaks together, giving an opportunity to chat and discuss relevant topics.

    Main duties of the job

    The role involves all the reasonable duties of a GP, home visits, duty doctor and other typical day to day GP tasks.

    We run a standard appointment system with a mixture of pre-bookable and on the day appointments. Our clinical system is Systm1.

    Patients can choose appointment type, we offer telephone and face to face appointments as well as e-consult appointments.

    Patients can choose who they see but continuity is valued and encouraged.

    We are a friendly, well established surgery set in the beautiful Northumberland town of Prudhoe. The surgery is made up of 2 GP Partners, 3 salaried GPs (of which you would be one) and 1 full time GP registrar.

    The GP team are supported by:

    Job responsibilities

    The following are the core responsibilities of the salaried GP.

    There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.

    Clinical:

    Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract and additional and enhanced services where appropriate

    Undertake a variety of duties (as agreed) including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with all queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

    Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

    Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

    Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

    Develop care plans for health, in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols

    Provide counselling and health education

    Refer patients to other care providers as appropriate

    Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

    Collect data for audit purposes

    Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

    Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

    Ensure accurate and timely input of patient data onto the clinical system

    On call duties: blood results, prescription authorisations, incoming letters, general queries and emergencies

    Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

    Support the management team in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

    Actively participate in local clinical governance processes

    Develop and maintain clinical skills and abilities through CPD and participate in yearly appraisal to identify further education, training and development needs.

    Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
  • Currently on performers list
  • Evidence of recent self-directed learning or development.
  • Regular appraisal and revalidation in accordance with the Good Medical Practice Framework
  • Able to work flexibly
