    Job Purpose:


    The primary role is to lead and be responsible for the full design specification and compatibility to all system attributes and performance targets.

    This will involve interaction and co-ordination of both supplier and internal departments to deliver the commodities within the quality, cost and timing constraints identified within the programme.


    Key Duties & Responsibilities:
    Create and manage engineering releases for owned commodities.
    Lead commodity strategy activities for owned commodities.
    Create and manage FESO documents for owned commodities.

    Ensure commodities are engineered to quality, cost and timing targets defined by Commodity Leads, including creation of commodity timing plans and cost/change management.

    Co-ordinate and lead programme specific failure mode prevention activities (e.g. DFMEA, QHR, and Lessons Learnt Feedback).

    Define commodity level targets, and cascaded system level targets, and be accountable for achieving targets through simulation or physical validation.

    Manage virtual series through complete process (e.g. Grey to White)
    Manage physical build concerns from after point of containment to resolution (e.g. yellow to white)
    Lead cross functional design reviews for your commodities on a programme
    Lead assembly reviews with manufacturing Engineering to ensure build compatibility
    Provide surface compatibility feedback for owned commodities to concept team
    Lead complex and chronic route cause analysis activities relating to owned commodities.
    Work with suppliers to achieve manufacturing feasibility for owned commodities
    Lead design of commodities to achieve functional performance targets including mass

    Create high quality Engineering Information Documents (EID's) for commodities to ensure PCE, purchasing and supplier have clear understanding of what to quote / estimate.

    Working with development team lead design of bucks / rigs to support FMA activities
    Create and manage interface matrix for owned commodities to ensure cross functional interactions are confirmed in a timely manner.
    Create and manage application specific location strategy for owned commodities.
    Actual duties may vary dependent upon the individual team.

    Qualification & Experience:
    Experience within automotive industry (or similar), preferably with a broad range of experience, particularly within BIW design and delivery.
    Experience in BIW is essential, including a knowledge of relevant legislation & manufacturing techniques (e.g. SMC, Metal Pressings, castings and extrusions).
    Experience of working in high pressure pre-production and launch situations
    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
    Knowledge and experience of Failure Mode Avoidance techniques.
    Knowledge of the AML AMPCS process would be beneficial.
    Knowledge of NX an advantage
    Good ability to clearly present information to all levels in the organisation.
    Minimum Degree level in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
