About this job:

Purpose - Responsibility for the catering for the Centre's customers.

- To prepare, cook and serve food in accordance with defined standards and quality, working within guidelines regarding current health, safety and hygiene legislation and the Centre's Health and Safety policy, with the aim of achieving high standards of customer care and good quality.

Duties - Food preparation and cooking, including provision for special diets. - Portion control. - Assist in menu planning. - Record keeping - including 'opening and closing' checks on freezers and fridges. - Ensure all food hygiene regulations are adhered to. - Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed. - Keep store cupboard clean and report any shortages to Head Cook. - Ensure kitchen equipment and machinery are clean and maintained. - Laundry of kitchen linen. - In the absence of the Head Cook - check deliveries and correctly store them. - Participate in intensive cleaning and other household tasks during closed periods. - Any other reasonable duties within the grading of the post and competence of the post holder.

General Conditions:

  • All duties carried out should comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • A 'food safety in catering' course will be attended.
  • A programme of working days will be drawn up at least one month in advance.
  • Holidays will generally be taken during closed periods, at the convenience of the Centre and at the discretion of the Line Manager or Head of Centre. It will not normally be possible for head cook and cook to take holidays at the same time, unless the Centre programme allows.
  • In order to deliver the service effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties, however, will fall within the scope of the post, at the appropriate grade.

About you:

Some knowledge of food areas and catering would be useful.

Ability to work in a small team and independently.

Ability to learn on the job and willingness to train.
