This is an exciting time to join the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS), to deliver and support the evolution of the College.

We are currently developing a new vision and strategy for the College which will reflect our growing ambitions and the importance of a hands-on authentic experience for our students and experimental translational research.

The Head of Technical Services is a key new role for the College designed to provide senior strategic and operational leadership for the development and delivery of technical services within the College of EPS including our associated University Research Institutes.

Working with a range of stakeholders, you will be expected to provide strategic direction to ensure technical services best support academic and research staff in delivering high-quality teaching, research and industry engagement.

This will include overall responsibility for the management and supporting the maintenance of capital teaching and research labs and equipment, the financial viability of facilities, leadership of the technical staff and management and responsibility for safe working practices, in collaboration with the EPS Health and Safety Advisor & Business Partner.

You will work with colleagues across the college to identify new strategic equipment needs and best practices in the maintenance and usage of equipment.

You will also have responsibility for the management and delivery of strategic College initiatives such as F1 in Schools, and the recruitment and training of technical apprentices across the College.

As part of our commitment to advancing the status of technical staff, the role will have responsibility for supporting the delivery of the UK Technicians Commitment across the University, in collaboration with other technical leads.

You will engage with peers across the College and wider University and will engage with internal and external networks, ensuring the College is adopting best practice from across the HE sector and industry.
