    Job summary

    The main purpose of this post is to support the Finance Manager, in the provision of timely and accurate financial information and advice to support all budget holders in ensuring the financial management activity within the Trust is managed effectively.

    This post will give the successful candidate the experience of working with staff throughout the hospital, working collaboratively with our partners.

    The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of the financial agenda within their allocated CSU's and will fully participate in the delivery of their objectives as well as those of the Finance Department.

    The post has specific responsibility for assisting in accounting for a number of discrete budgetary areas within their allocated CSU's, and responsibility for managing other elements of financial management systems and processes

    The successful candidate will need to possess good communication, time management and organisational skills and must be able to work under pressure and work to tight timescales.

    The candidate must be able to use their own initiative and prioritise their workload ensuring deadlines are met as specified. The candidate will possess high level numeracy skills, being competent in processing and interpreting figures. The candidate must possess highly developed IT skills.

    Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of working within a Finance role.
  • Desirable

  • Experience in NHS financial management environment
  • Experience of contributing to preparation and submission of research funding applications
  • Skills

    Essential

  • High level numeracy skills, competent in processing and interpreting figures
  • Highly competent in computers and associate software packages, particularly in the use of financial ledgers & Word. Excellent working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Working to tight deadlines and managing conflicting priorities.
  • Multi-disciplinary team working skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written having the ability to dissect and analyse information and present these in a number of different mediums
  • Desirable

  • Ability to use other windows packages such as Word, Power-point and Access
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Knowledge of financial aspects of NHS legislation
  • Understanding and good working knowledge of financial software packages, particularly the General Ledger

  • Knowledge of financial aspects of Research & Development within an NHS setting
  • Understanding and good working knowledge of Oracle financial software package
  • Qualifications

    Essential

  • With at least 2 years financial experience, resulting in specialist knowledge and detailed understanding of management accounting, operation of financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • 2 A'levels. 5 GCSE's including Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Desirable

  • CCAB part qualified (Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies). OR AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Qualified and equivalent experience (to the above) demonstrated by a level of skills/knowledge evidenced by previous experience/projects.

  • Relevant Accountancy Degree
  • Advanced ECDL or equivalent IT skills
