    An excited opportunity has arisen on Greyfriars PICU for an experienced, compassionate and motivated Senior Nurse.

    Greyfriars is a ten bedded Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit which provides care for those people who require a period of increased supervision and intensive input as a result of acute mental health problems.

    Wotton Lawn is an 88 bed Acute Mental Health Hospital situated in the centre of the historic city of Gloucester and provides inpatient services to the population of Gloucestershire. It offers a vital service to the citizens of Gloucestershire in supporting and rehabilitating those suffering from mild to severe mental health problems. All wards are serviced by an enthusiastic, multi-professional team of people, including Doctors, Nurses, Allied Healthcare Professionals and Therapists who are supported by Ward Secretaries and Hotel Services Staff.     Main duties of the job The role will have a specific focus on supporting the Unit Manager and developing/maintaining clinical standards for the service.

    The successful candidate will require significant experience in a Psychiatric Intensive Care, Acute Inpatient Nursing and or Crisis Home Treatment. You will be able to demonstrate a capacity for clinical excellence and developing the role with a view to enhancing services to the unit and other countywide services.

    The post requires working shifts across the seven-day period including weekends and nights. The successful candidate will also be part of the Band 6 Clinical lead rota for Wotton Lawn Hospital.

    We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work with and lead our team in continuing to move our PICU services forward in line with National Minimum Standards.

    Flexible' working arrangements will be considered. Any request will be set against genuine operational requirements and limitations and it is not obligatory for a manager to accede to the request.

    • Registered Nurse Mental Health Formal Teaching and Assessing Course (completed or commencement date known)
    • Appraisal Skills (appraisee within 3 months)
    • Risk Assessment & Management (within 3 months)
    Desirable
    • Management of Violence & Aggression (within 3 months)
    • Supervision skills (Clinical)
    LENGTH AND / OR NATURE OF EXPERIENCE Essential
    • Significant experience in an acute in-patient setting Managing 'emergencies within an in-patient setting & PICU
    • Completion of the Trust's Preceptorship Programme.
    Desirable
    • Teaching and presentation experience
    • Crisis Home Treatment experience
    PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE Essential
    • Medical Emergency Response Team (equivalent to Immediate Life Support standards)
    • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the MHA, MCA & other legal aspects of mental health care
    • Excellent knowledge of PICU assessment criteria and completion of relevant referral training programme
    • Clinical Supervisory skills
    • A good working knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act (within 3 months).
    • A good working knowledge of the Care Programme Approach
    Desirable
    • Working Knowledge of Trust and Care Group Clinical Guidelines, Policies and Procedures
    • Awareness and understanding of NICE guidelines (and other national guidelines) relating to working age adult mental health.
    • Awareness of Health and Well-being recommendations.
