    We have an exciting opportunity for 1 Part Time Band 7 Specialist Nurse Children in Careto join the North Yorkshire, Children in Care Team.


    We are looking for individuals who are passionate about safeguarding children and have the skills to carryout cumulative risk assessments of cases at a very high level.


    The Specialist Nurses main role is to support the Named Nurse and the Lead Named Nurse Safeguarding & Children in Care to fulfil HDFT responsibilities in order to protect children, staff and the public which is set out in the DOH Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 document.


    The Specialist Nurse Child Protection also supports the Named Nurse to meet our quality and governance requirements for CQC and Joint Targeted area inspections.

    Establish effective working relationships and networks with all professionals and agencies contributing to the safeguarding of children and young people in care.


    Using good levels of knowledge of child development, the law and good knowledge about risks identify when there is a need to professionally challenge a decision.

    Provide advice and support to partner agencies, health visitors, school nurses and managers.


    Provide advice to Health Professionals and Professionals in other agencies about health needs and signpost to the appropriate health provider, referring to Senior members of the Safeguarding Children team as appropriate.


    To develop processes and pathways to transform services for Children in Care and Care Leavers across North Yorkshire and York.

    The post holder will use quality improvement and project management methodology to develop focused pathways for Care Leavers, Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children and children who are placed out of area.

    To support the Specialist Nurse for Children in Care and 0-19 team in North Yorkshire to:


    Undertake robust Review Health Assessments (RHA's) that considers both the emotional and physical health and development needs of children in care.


    To assess, plan and evaluate care plans that have been devised from RHA's on children across a spectrum of ages.

    To quality assure completed RHA's by practitioners and identify both areas of good practice and also areas of improvement

    To act as an advocate for children in care.

    NMC Registration.
    ~1st level nurse with a first degree in a health related subject or equivalent or equivalent experience
    ~ To have attended multi-agency training in Safeguarding Children and related topics.
    ~ Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner/Registered Nurse.

    Additional relevant qualification of working with vulnerable children or ability to demonstrate having gained equivalent knowledge
    Safeguarding Children Supervision Skills training.
