    GENERAL STATEMENT:

    Under the general direction of the Sr. Rolling Stock Engineer, the Rolling Stock Engineer will provide rolling stock support services, which include review of international high-speed trainset/train systems best practices, development of trainset system requirements and performance specifications, and support of the trainset procurement. The Rolling Stock Engineer will also support industry development of high-speed rail regulations and standards, and coordinate efforts with various operating agencies to ensure interfaces are respected. The employee works in the Rail Engineering Section, which is part of the Rail and Operations Delivery Branch.

    70% (E)

    Support the trainset procurement, research industry best practices, develop responses to industry requests for information, refine trainset performance specifications and associated RFP documents, support requirements management activities, maintain documentation to demonstrate compliance with FRA code of Federal Regulations.

    15% (E)

    Provide rolling stock technical support to CHSR regional teams, engineering teams (e.g., core systems), and working groups (e.g., safety and security).

    10% (E)

    Coordinate efforts with external agencies (FRA, state and local agencies, and vehicle manufacturers) for new requirements and technologies.

    5% (E)

    Support federal and industry development of high-speed rail regulations and standards.

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

    Recent graduate experienced in the research and knowledge-sharing of technical topics. Critical subjects for investigation include the design, manufacture, testing, and operation of high-speed rail trainsets, high-speed rail systems, applicable regulations, international and domestic best practices, high-speed trainset procurements, project management principles.

    Ability to: Research best practices; write specifications; support procurement process and evaluations; interact with industry stakeholders; remain up-to-date with high-speed rail technologies and news; meet deadlines; work and communicate effectively with others using courtesy, respect, and sensitivity; and follow and adhere to company and project policies.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Engineering preferred. Lack of engineering degree may be offset by a bachelor's degree relevant to the scope of this Duty Statement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CADD (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.).
  • Familiarity with transportation projects and disciplines.
  • Familiarity with rolling stock equipment and federal regulations/industry standards.
