Unite Students has a fantastic new opportunity in our growing Procurement team.


Reporting to the Procurement Director, with a dotted line into both our Development and Major Projects Teams, the role will provide professional procurement advice across the Construction, Development & Special Projects categories.

Ensuring value for moneythrough strategic sourcing and competitive tendering, driving category strategy and fostering effective supplier and operational relationships to optimise performance and minimise supply chain risk.


What You'll Be Doing

  • The creation of a longterm category strategy in relation to Construction, Development & Special Projects encompassing all areas of relevant spend
  • The spend area in particular focus:
  • Construction & Development (including Lifts, bathrooms, kitchens, doors, fire systems, dry walling, flooring, major refurbishments)
  • Special/Major Projects (including cladding, fire prevention systems and associated prelims)
  • The role will work closely with our main contractors to ensure optimal supply chain performance is maintained
  • Maintain excellent customer relationships with the development and major projects teams to enable fast problem solving and 'oneteam' mentality
  • Maintain major contractual agreements and agree commercials, supporting our development and major projects teams and stakeholders
  • Manage sourcing processes (including tenders, RFQs, negotiations) for accountable categories
  • Drive innovation in specification and sourcing practices
  • Provide expert contractual and commercial advice to the team and business stakeholders
  • Long term assessment of supply options and resilience planning
  • Ensuring acute knowledge of relevant industries to allow exploitation of innovation as it is developed
  • Demonstrate best practice supplier relationship management across accountable categories
  • Ensure our sourcing strategy in these areas is supportive of the companies ESG goals.
  • Provide challenge to entrenched practices and spending culture including instilling commercial discipline in all areas of the category

What We're Looking for in You

  • Commercial intuition to proactively identify savings opportunities and unlock the maximum possible benefit
  • Ability to negotiate complex commercial agreements, and a skilled mediator that is able to resolve performance issues or disputes
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Construction, Development & Special Projects (major capex) categories of spend and supply chains
  • Ability to profile and manage supply chain risks (including sole supply, sustainability, governance, reputational and safety)
  • Extensive category management experience and ideally fully or part CIPS qualified (or equivalent qualification) with a desire to continue to develop.
  • Great team player
  • Desire to be part of a diverse, ambitious procurement team in a great business
  • Ability to build relationships and rapport with a variety of key stakeholders especially with the primary 'customer', our senior operational leadership team
  • Demonstrate a curiosity to understand our business
  • A 'customerfirst mindset' to ensure the supply requirements of the business are fully understood
