    Description
    Job Title: Foreman (Porous Portals)
    Location: South Portal
    Department: Tunnelling
    Reporting to: Package Manager

    Purpose of the job The Chiltern Tunnels will be constructed with the help of two Variable Density Tunnel Boring Machine. Tunnelling operation will cover 24h/7days a week.

    The ALIGN Porous Portals Foreman will be involved in all on site activities associated with the construction of the South and North Porous Portals and associated reinforced concrete sub-structures and super-structures.
    The Porous Portals Foreman will ensure that all production tasks are completed safely, on time and within budget. The Porous Portals Foreman will be a strong leader, pro-active and perform well under pressure.

    The Porous Portal activities includes:
    • The construction of the South and North Porous Portals, including:
    • Reinforced Concrete Portal Hoods and Walls
    • Cut-and-cover Cross Passages
    • Reinforced Concrete Base Slab and Track Crossover Slab
    The role requires a high level of interfacing between internal departments, multiple subcontractors, and suppliers. The Porous Portals Foreman will work in collaboration with the Surface Manager, Package Manager and Surface Superintendent.
    Responsibilities The Porous Portals Foreman will be responsible for:
    • Assisting the site management team to manage sections of the work on-site.
    • Leading an on-site team.
    • Providing on site leadership to ensure that safety and quality standards are met or exceeded, and programme and commercial target are achieved or bettered.
    • Working alongside the Surface Superintendent and to coordinate all portal's related works with logistics and traffic.
    • Ensuring the Surface Manager and Senior Engineer are updated on all issues as soon as possible, to mitigate the risk of production downtime.
    • Ensuring all site-based activities are communicated to the Management to avoid any conflict of planned activities.
    • Reviewing interfaces with adjacent activities and ensuring that they are properly coordinated and communicated.
    • Attending regular site progress meetings with all involved parties to monitor progress, quality and safety and to coordinate logistic and traffic in the production area.
    • Assisting the daily activity briefing to ensure that all team member and subcontractor gang understand the planned activities and are aware of any changing risks associated with the planned works.
    • Promoting Health and Safety, Environment to the wider team, ensuring quality, timely and safe work practices
    • Fulfilling Health & Safety responsibilities by adhering to the Company's Health & Safety Policy and Management Plans.
    • Tracking and monitoring KPI compliance and recommending improvements to systems to maintain team production.
    • Ensuring that all plant, transport, and materials used on the site are of sufficient quality and quantity to complete the task in question.
    • Ensuring all works undertaken comply with the set budget.
    • Ensure the site is kept to a high standard and meets management expectations.
    • Carrying out any disciplinary measures necessary to site operatives, site foreman or subcontractors in accordance with policy.
    Skills & Experience
    • At least 10-15 years on-site experience within the construction industry, ideally working on large scale projects.
    • 10+ years as a supervisor and/or supervisor of supervisors.
    • Equivalent role with experience in subcontractor management or self-delivery.
    • Experience of managing or assisting with the management of programmes of work, ensuring the project runs to schedule.
    • Experience in managing or assisting with the management on-site, monitoring, dealing with subcontractors and finding solutions to problems that could cause delays/additional costs.
    • Good technical knowledge and attention to detail.
    • A good practical understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
    • Strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills.
    • Ability to prioritise, plan, schedule and evaluate works.
    Qualifications
    • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or SSSTS qualification.
    • CSCS Gold/Black Card holder.
    • NVQ Level 4 or 5, trade background.
    • IOSH.
    • Full UK driving Licence.
    • Required – Reinforced Concrete experience.
    • Desirable – IPAF.
    • Desirable – Temporary Works Supervisor.
    • Desirable – Slingers Ticket.
    • Desirable - First Aider (5-day course).
