    Appleyard Lees, Associate Patent Attorney – Chemistry

    An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Cambridge office for a newly qualified Patent Attorney with a background in Chemistry.

    Ideally, you will have 1 – 3 years (PQE) in private practice or perhaps be looking to move to private practice after a period in-house.

    The role will involve direct client work in a range of technical areas relating to chemistry, training more junior colleagues, building a network with some of Cambridge's most exciting chemical companies and a highly supportive working environment.

    The role is aimed at advancing and expanding our chemical practice in the Cambridge area.
    Our chemistry team also handles a lot of EPO opposition work.
    You will need to feel comfortable going to networking events to promote our services.

    There is considerable opportunity to expand several areas of our pharmaceutical and chemical practice – polymers, catalysis, battery technology, industrial processing, materials, coatings and novel compounds and compositions for industrial and healthcare applications – and experience in these areas would be advantageous.

    In particular, we aim to provide the right level of support for the transition from trainee to senior attorney.

    For us, your development training does not stop when you have passed the professional exams.

    Management of a broad spectrum of chemical and/or pharmaceutical work
    ~ Strong academic background in chemistry and/or pharmaceuticals
    ~ Demonstrated experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications within the chemical field
    ~ Proficiency in business development and networking
    ~ An interest in practising and learning how to coach, guide and mentor trainees

    We will assign you with a mentor who will be able to provide professional and personal support throughout your training contract.

    Providing people with a mentor is a critical part of enabling development and knowing if individuals are 'on track' in terms of their career path and progression, it also helps with improving knowledge and skills.
