    Job summary

    We have a great opportunity for a physiotherapist to continue their development in the field of community paediatrics. The caseload you will be responsible for will be highly varied and promote your clinical and professional development within a supportive environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in special schools and nurseries, mainstream schools and community clinics in order to develop their skills and experience with all ages and abilities of children/young people. There will also be the opportunity to work in the Paediatric Musculoskeletal Clinic.

    This is a Band 6 post, however we will be willing to consider candidates with less experience at band 5, supported by the APCP developmental programme attached to the advert to achieve band 6 within 12-24 months.

    Although fully supported, if the applicant is unable to complete the competencies within the period of 24 months, they will remain at a Band 5 level.

    Interviews will be held in person at Carmelita House, 21-22 The Mall, Ealing W5 2PJ.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of physiotherapy intervention for children aged 0-19 referred to the service with a range of developmental and neurological conditions and/or complex needs, and to organise and coordinate their own caseload with supervision from the Team Leader. The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a range of community settings.

    The successful candidate will be highly motivated, team player with some previous experience in paediatric physiotherapy. Excellent communication skills are expected and own transport will also be beneficial. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team that is passionate about delivering a high-quality service for our children and families, and you will be encouraged to be involved in service development and other quality improvement initiatives to improve staff & service user experiences.

    About us

    We offer multidisciplinary assessment and reviews, joint OT/physio clinics, CPIPs assessments and shared care clinics with neuro-orthopaedics and rheumatology, and an orthotics service.

    Professional development and training will be supported within our department by experienced paediatric physiotherapists and you will be part of an in-service training program. Development of excellent clinical skills will be promotedand supported by senior staff, along with access to external training available in line with your personal development plan.

    Multi-disciplinary working is a vital component of this position, and we have strong working relationships with our colleagues in Health, Education and Social Care within Ealing Services for Children with Additional Needs (ESCAN). We also have close links with some of the tertiary centres in the London area, and work jointly with Chelsea and Westminster for our Neuro Orthopaedic pathway.

    We are based in the London borough of Ealing, which is a vibrant and diverse Borough that has good transport links to the centre of London by tube, bus and road.

    Job responsibilities

  • To assess and diagnose the specialist physiotherapy needs for children aged 0- 19 years, (depending on setting), and analyse the appropriate clinical intervention for the variety of childhood conditions referred to the community service
  • To set realistic, measurable goals that are compliant with the functional needs of the children and families, depending on the setting.
  • To plan and implement specialist physiotherapy programs, which are taught to parents, carers, nursing staff or school staff where appropriate
  • To provide continual reassessment and review of these goals depending on the needs of the children and environment change.
  • To manage a caseload of children with simple to complex needs withsupervision and guidance as necessary from senior staff
  • To teach other agencies therapeutic handling of children to access the school curriculum or give advice to other staff and parents who are involved in the daily management of the children in other settings.
  • To attend relevant meetings within the multi-disciplinary team whilst autonomously providing advice and support, including providing Physiotherapy advice and recommendations for Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • To maintain a high level of manual skills to facilitate functional outcomes for the children
  • To identify the need and arrange provision of appropriate specialistequipment, orthotics, wheelchairs, Special Seating, standing frames, mobility aids, manual handling equipment, other postural management equipment in conjunction with the Paediatric occupational therapy team.
  • To work in non NHS environments, developing and organising your own caseload and time.

    Education / Qualifications

    Essential

  • Diploma Physiotherapy or BSc Physiotherapy.
  • State Registration as a Physiotherapist (HCPC)
  • Registration with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Desirable

  • APCP Membership
  • Post-graduation training in Paediatrics
  • Knowledge & Experience

    Essential

  • Evidence of a strong interest in specialising in physiotherapy for children and young adults with disabilities and demonstrable evidence of previous paediatric experience
  • Knowledge of appropriate assessment tools and therapeutic interventions for children and young people with physical disabilities
  • Knowledge of postural management and mobility equipment, and orthotics
  • Experience of working with children in a community setting
  • Previous experience of working in the UK Health Service or similar health economy
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Experience of supervising Band 5 physios, assistants & students
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary working
  • Participation in and delivering multi-agency and in-service training
  • Participation in evidence based practice ( research, audit) to improve services and outcomes
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of basic rotations in areas such as respiratory, neurology, orthopaedics, etc
  • Experience of working in, or with, schools and education staff
  • Knowledge of relevant National Policies and Procedures SEND green paper
  • Awareness of the NHS long term plan and the implications for community services
