About the team/division
Hiscox Miami MGA underwrites and produces facultative reinsurance risks in Latin America. These are specialist risks that currently include Fine Art, Political Violence and Product Recall lines of business.

This role is for 6 months initially and will be based in London, supporting the Miami MGA.


The Role
This role offers exposure to a vast area of the business and the opportunity to build wide-reaching relationships.


Hiscox Miami is currently searching for a diligent Client Support Specialist in London to primarily handle support to the Underwriting activities with the facultative reinsurance products.

This is an opportunity for someone who has pride in their work and can handle detail.

It is also an appointment where there will be plenty of opportunity to improve knowledge and skills in a highly respected insurance company.


You will be part of a team of three other Underwriting Assistants, servicing different products across the Crisis Management's portfolio (Terrorism, Product Recall, Kidnap and Ransom and Fine Art) spanning an international footprint that includes London, Guernsey, Europe and Latin America).


The main responsibility of the Underwriting Assistant is to provide administrative assistance and support to underwriters and brokers, to help them meet ambitious growth targets.

This will include tasks such as data entry of insurance risks, triaging client requests, policy administration tasks, claims administration, handling credit control queries, due-diligence and reporting activities.


The role involves being part of a busy team often under pressure to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for internal and external clients.

The team's structure and operating model is changing to better support an evolving business. As such, team members need to be open, flexible and adaptable to change. The demands of the role are varied.

You will have to manage curve balls - there's not always a clear 'to-do' list, and sometimes it can be challenging to meet the day-to-day tasks along with any ad-hoc requests.

What you'll be doing in the role

  • Provide high quality service and operational support to underwriting teams and brokers, ensuring quality, consistency and reliability.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry for internal and external clients, whilst maintaining excellent service standards
  • Achieve service level agreement (SLA) targets in a volume environment
Work towards pre-underwriting the endorsements and renewals on this account

  • Investigate finance and bordereaux queries and problem solve effectively.
  • Claims administration activities which include data entry, preliminary analysis of claims documents and communications with external stakeholders.
  • To maintain compliance with the adopted rules, working procedures and other forms of best practice.
  • Assist with embedding regulatory controls and producing necessary reporting.
  • Champion operational best practice, identifying opportunities for improvements in process, service, quality, and time taken to complete tasks, and participating in solution design.
  • Understand and comply with operational processes and procedures.
  • Participate in and support the implementation of continuous improvement projects or change project work.
  • Build strong knowledge of your class(es) of business and all processes and systems involved.

person specification:

Our must haves

  • 13 years of experience in a corporate setting, preferable in a critically thinking support role
  • Experience of working in the insurance industry, with knowledge of how an insurance contract and policy documentation is put together
  • Demonstrate high quality administrative and organisational skills,
  • Shows professionalism, working unsupervised and under own initiative
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and develop, with a strong desire to undertake additional responsibilities
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence to build relationships at all levels, and ask questions to ensure requirements are understood
  • Strives for service excellence, with superb attention to detail and strong commitment to quality
