Esteem North Academy is seeking flexible, committed, enthusiastic and highly skilled Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistants to assist either permanently excluded pupils, or those at risk of exclusion, with learning and engagement at our High Peak site.

The academy provides statutory education to children who are at risk of, or have been, permanently excluded. Pupils who attend the academy have challenging and often complex needs, and exhibit behaviours that prevent them from attending a mainstream school. The role will involve supporting primary aged pupils in lessons to engage in their learning and supporting pupils at break and lunch times. You will work with small groups, or with pupils on a one-to-one basis to meet their needs as directed by the class teacher or site leads. Classes are small with approximately 4-8 pupils. This role may also involve working off site in pupil's homes or other venues if this meets the needs of the pupils. We are developing our enrichment offer and are looking for other off-site opportunities for pupils which will require staffing such as potentially forest schools or sporting activities.

Applicants should have good knowledge and experience of working with disaffected pupils in a school or other alternative setting. An affinity for pupils with behaviour, emotional and social difficulties is an essential quality for this challenging but rewarding opportunity. Applicants should be resilient, have high expectations, and a sense of humour. You must be able to build positive relationships with our pupils and think outside of the box. You will be responsible for contributing to a small staffing team to ensure that the site runs smoothly, and this may involve stepping up to deliver lessons in staff absence. A growth mindset and positive ethos are essential characteristics that we are looking for.

The role will be based at one of our sites and mileage claims for any travel are included in this role. There may be travel to our other academy sites for meetings, Inset and CPD. You are required to have daily access to transport with business use included on your car insurance before you begin the role. You may be required to transport pupils in your own car, carry out some home learning or safe and well visits for non- attenders to support the pastoral team.
