    Job summary

    We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed SHCA who willjoin our friendly and conscientious Ophthalmology team. This is a Part time post Fixed term post for 12 months and these hours will need to be worked flexibly to cover the needs of theservice.

    Our service is countywide in that we offer a range of services to thepopulation of Worcestershire, treating and managing the simplest to complexconditions and diseases.

    The successful candidate will work primarily at the Kidderminster hospital site but all staff are required to be flexible and may need to coveractivity on other sites should the need arise.

    This excellent opportunity has arisen for band 3 SHCA to join ourdepartment working within our multidisciplinary team. You will be required towork in both the theatre and clinic environments and will be supported toprovide excellent care for our patients.

    Main duties of the job

  • To support the professionally qualified staff and work under their direction to provide quality nursing care, therapy activity, treatments and procedures directly to patients.
  • To prepare clinical rooms for outpatient clinics to ensure a smooth running clinic
  • Visual acuity testing
  • Optical Coherence Topography
  • Intraocular pressure testing with the ORA/I-Care
  • Pentacam
  • Visual Field Testing
  • Chaperoning patients
  • Assisting within the laser clinic to maintain patient and relatives safety
  • Assisting the registered nurse in the nurse-led pre-assessment clinic.
  • To be conversant with equipment and its use and the procedure for reporting faults.
  • To put away stock and help maintain stock levels.
  • To Clear Dirty instrument trolleys and rubbish and linen bags.
  • Assist in positioning patients on the operating table.
  • Assist in preparing theatres
  • Assist in the Admission and preparation of Patients for theatre.
  • Act as an Escort nurse
  • Act as a runner in Theatre
  • Setting up of sterile field for Intravitreal injections
  • Assist in the care and Discharge of Post op Patients.
