    Business Development Manager - Specialist Services (Total Waste Management)

    Location - West Midlands through to the South West.

    An exciting opportunity to be part of a team of 4 and working on 2-4+ business wins per year.

    The Business Development Manager will manage, develop and maintain a pipeline of high value (>£1mil) new business opportunities in order to deliver profitable revenue growth for the Specialist Services division. The post holder will be a senior business development professional, tailoring and developing successfully total waste management solutions for the manufacturing and distribution sectors. The role is 100% new business and will not entail any account management. This is a national role with a primary focus in the South West/South Midlands regions.

    The Specialist Services division focuses upon delivering total waste management solutions to businesses in the manufacturing and distribution channels and the ideal candidate will have experience and understanding of these business sectors. The Specialist Services offer requires the Business Development Manager to propose strategic solutions that encompass continuous improvement, cost saving, best practice and environmental sustainability – as such, the role suits a solutions oriented, agile commercial lead who is focused on creating value for clients.

  • Working closely with existing operational and account management teams to deliver the ideal solution for the client at agreed profit levels for Biffa.
  • Here's what we require:

  • Sales and development experience, with 3 years or more experience in a comparable field-based business development role.
  • Agile, solutions focused development skillset.
  • Experience of developing, managing and implementing new business services.
  • Waste industry knowledge including relevant laws would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record in sales, selling high value contracted services (the role is focused on accounts worth £500K+ per annum).
  • Presentation, selling, negotiating and influential skills.
  • Analytical and able to quickly assess issues and recommend and/or implement solutions.
  • Team player, able to work effectively across operations, marketing, tender team support etc.
  • Robust and resilient, able to absorb pressure and respond positively.
  • Experience of building and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Determined and pragmatic approach to delivering to tight deadlines and targets.
  • The ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision and, most importantly, play well with others.
  • Computer literate with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Preferably degree educated.
