    Job summary

    We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Newborn Hearing Screening team at Stockport as a Team Supervisor Lead.

    The post is based at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport and is 32 hours Monday-Friday however there may be requirements for travel to attend external meetings, training, or neighbouring sites and to provide weekend cover so access to transport and a flexible approach to work is advantageous.

    The post holder will supervise a team of 4 Newborn Hearing Screeners and provide support to the Newborn Hearing Screening Manager. The role will be varied and include both clinical and administrative duties. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the continuous development and overall success of the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme.

    An introduction programme and full training and assessment will be provided along with continued support to develop leadership skills. If not already completed there may be a requirement to undertake the Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners which is a national qualification for non-professionally regulated staff working in some screening services. The diploma must be completed in a 12-month period and covers a range of written, verbal, and practical assessments. Self-directed study will be required.

    Main duties of the job

    Undertaking clinical screening on the wards you will be confident in a hospital setting and working with the general public. You will have the skills to work independently and to manage your own workload and at times that of others.

    Leading a team of Hearing Screeners you will have the ability to form and maintain relationships providing relevant support and seeking further advice when needed. You will be able to implement new ways of working and understand the impact of change.

    You will have an eye for detail and be able to work to deadlines. You will understand the needs of the service and plan staffing rotas accordingly. You will ensure stock levels are managed effectively and highlight when orders are required.

    In the absence of the Newborn Hearing Screening Manager you will be a point of contact allowing for a continuous service provision. You will have the ability to make decisions in line with the Programme and Trust's needs

    Job responsibilities

    Job Responsibilities

  • Promote Family Friendly Hearing services, providing accurate and detailed information to ensure informed consent. This will include tailoring communication methods and pursuing effective communication channels.
  • Undertake clinical hearing screening
  • Ensure accurate screening results are recorded on paper records, the screening equipment and on the National IT system
  • To identify and report equipment faults in line with the equipment manufacture guidance
  • Maintain and support an organised working environment for the screening team working in maternity, neonatal intensive care units and outpatient clinics. Liaising with immediate and local departments to ensure seamless follow up services
  • Deal with telephone, email and face to face enquires including difficult conversations
  • Undertake and participate in team meetings, appraisals and 1:1s
  • Provide supervision and support using interpersonal and communication skills
  • Plan rotas to allow for a 7 day screening coverage
  • Support the administration function in line with achieving national KPIs
  • Lead by example by maintaining a professional presence and adhering to the Trust policies and procedures
  • Provide day to day leadership and support the Newborn Hearing Screening Manager in resolution of any operational or local issues that may arise. Contributing to the development of new or existing processes.

  • NVQ level 3/4 in equivalent health related studies or Experienced Newborn Hearing Screener with External Competency Assessment (ECA) or Equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of national IT systems, Smart4Hearing
