    Job Title: Senior Town Planner/Planner (Residential Projects)

    Salary: Up to £40,000 DoE

    Location: Leeds, Yorkshire

    Position Overview:

    We have an opportunity for a motivated and talented RTPI (or soon to be qualified) Town Planner to join our small and growing team. The successful candidate would play an integral role in supporting our planning activities across a wide geography (in all regions of Yorkshire and occasionally further afield) and would work on a range of exciting projects, primarily in the residential sector.

    The role is full time and predominantly office based, with the opportunity to work from home occasionally and subject to agreement. The successful candidate would be reporting to the Planning Director. With day-to-day support from the Architecture team.

    Key Skills:

    The ideal person would possess:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, or related field (RTPI accredited)
    • Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or be very close to submitting their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC)
    • A Minimum of one year of professional experience in town planning, preferably with a focus on residential projects.
    • A Sound knowledge of planning legislation, regulations, and processes in Yorkshire.
    • A through understanding of permitted development and change of use legislation
    • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Proven ability to present arguments in person at Council meetings
    • Proficiency in using tools such as Searchland to assess site constraints plus other planning software and tools, such as AutoCAD, GIS, and planning databases.
    • A proactive and adaptable attitude, with a passion for sustainable urban development and design.
    • A proven ability to multi-task, across many projects, helping to progress the team's workload, managing projects capably.
    • A willingness and enthusiasm as a team player.
    • An enjoyment of writing, with excellent language skills and ability to effectively communicate planning arguments.

    Key Responsibilities:

    The successful candidate will work closely with the Planning Director and Architecture Director on a variety of residential developments, from single-family homes to multi-unit developments. Typically, your role will involve managing your own workload, assisting the senior team fee earners, undertaking planning research and enquiries, drafting reports and planning submissions (site assessments, policy notes, applications, appeals, development plan representations and so on). Assisting with the management of the team's project instructions and its business development activities.

    Specifically, this would entail

    • Assisting in the preparation and submission of planning applications for residential projects.
    • Conduct research and analysis on planning policies, regulations, and legislative requirements.
    • Prepare planning reports, assessments, and recommendations for clients and stakeholders.
    • Liaise with local authorities, councils, and other relevant agencies on planning matters.
    • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other consultants to ensure compliance with planning regulations and project objectives.
    • Participate in community engagement activities and public consultations as required.
