Our client seeks a Head of Policy and Legal to join their team.

You must be willing to re-locate to the Isle of Man


Role Profile:


You will contribute to the managing and overseeing all areas within the Legal, Policy and Risk Division's responsibility, which includes the provision of legal advice and acting as Corporate Secretary to the Board.


Responsibilities include the effectiveness and efficiency of processes and controls for the provision of legal advice, development of policy and legislation and measurement and control of risk; as well as the day-to-day leadership, management and development of, and the provision of strategic direction to, staff of the Division.


The Head of LPR must also be able to deliver effective and prioritised action in order to deliver the required outcomes for the Authority and its other Divisions in meeting the regulatory objectives.


The Head of LPR is a member of the Executive Team and contributes to the strategic direction, risk horizon scanning and positive culture.

  • A strategic thinker that contributes to the priorities, strategic projects and common risk areas of the Authority, in addition to managing the Legal, Policy & Risk Division.
  • A forwardthinking leader who sees governance, emerging risks, compliance and risk management as more than checking boxes.
  • An individual with strong analytical, problem solving, decision making and organisational skills that utilises technology where appropriate to feed into the recognition of themes/trends to support strategy setting.
  • A team player who supports crossdivisional collaboration, consistent policy development and practices and has an innate ability to clarify even the most complex of concepts.
  • A tested leader who has shown their interest and commitment to developing others and a high performance, inclusive and diverse culture.
  • An individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver on difficult issues.
  • Experience in dealing with senior officials within both government and industry.
  • Holds a professional qualification in Legal Practice.
  • Holds a professional qualification relevant to the financial services industry.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Hold a relevant management qualification (ILM Level 7 or equivalent).
  • Extensive relevant experience in the provision of legal advice in a senior role, including conducting casework at all levels of seriousness.
  • Experience interpreting and/or developing policy frameworks and formulating solutions by way of legislation, policies, procedures and guidance.
  • Extensive experience in a strategic leadership/ management role with the ability to work in a collaborative style.
  • An extensive understanding and experience of the financial services sector and associated legislation, along with an understanding of trends and developments.
  • Proven leadership skills providing support, mentoring and coaching that inspires and motivates all team members to reach their full potential.
  • Discretion with confidential information, demonstrating a high degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, a flexible attitude and the ability to quickly and accurately assimilate information, to consider any associated risks and to summarise the information effectively.
  • Be alert to emerging issues or trends that might influence upon or benefit strategic plans and be able adjust in response to change.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage/oversee individual and team workloads of varied complexity, to manage competing priorities and to deliver against deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking, the ability to plan, work and make decisions accordingly.
  • Ability to lead and contribute to wider Authority initiatives.

£77,000.00-£121,000.00 per year
