Wages:
£9.50 per hour


Production bonus per week:
Minimum £25

Hours:

Mon to Fri 6 am to 2pm & Mon to Thurs 2 pm to 10 pm, Fri 11 am to 7 pm.

40 hour week

JOB PURPOSE:

The section will operate as a team and be responsible to Management for the lighting up, closing down and controlling temperatures etc on all furnaces (forge and heat treatment) and quenching systems as directed.

Loading and unloading all heat treatment furnaces and quenching systems including the preparation and handling of all furnace loads.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Ability to read and interpret, in English, process sheets, shop orders and instructions.
  • Ability to accurately visually align and measure forgings.
  • Basic skills to operate furnaces and data input.
  • Operate saws, burning and flame deseaming equipment when required.
  • Operate cranes and sling for all work movement throughout the department as required including charging ingots into forge furnaces outside the normal working hours of the Press crew, load/unload the marking off table and transport etc ensuring the safe condition and operation of all lifting equipment including tongs, points, chains etc.
  • Ability to access, operate and ensure safe working practice for overhead cranes to the appropriate standards.
  • Remove material defects by grinding, using swing or hand grinders as required, changing grinding wheels etc.
  • Provide assistance at Press as required.
  • Brick up furnaces, remove scale etc from all furnaces and Press, maintain both bays of the forge in a safe, clean and tidy condition at all times.
  • The section will be responsible for ensuring the completion of all records, work returns and any other documentation required by management.
  • To ensure that all furnaces are reviewed and signed for and where relevant any faults are reported to the appropriate person and acted upon within a reasonable timescale.
  • Required to sweep and clean the work area and maintain an acceptable level of general housekeeping ensuring that equipment and working area is maintained in a safe, clean and tidy condition at all times.
  • All operatives will be required to operate a flexible and mobility of labour system as required. All employees may be required from time to time to work outside their normal range of activities or hours and/or in another department.
  • All operatives are required to work to the highest standard and be willing to work towards their own personal development with support from other staff and management as well as encouraging the development of other team members.
  • Any other duties as and when required by management.

NOTE:
Priority must at all times be given to servicing production units i.e.

press, heat treatment, saws, marking off etc in preference to non-production units such as transport etc unless specifically instructed to do so by management.
