Description

To implement appropriate physical and procedural site procedures to Sherwood Oaks Hospital in accordance with unit procedure with appropriate response to ensure the safe and effective care provision of the hospital is not compromised.

Responsibility of the monitoring of Sherwood Oaks site for patients and staff.

Responsibility for implementing the potentially dangerous articles procedure to all staff and visitors to the secure area.

The Hospital provides inpatient care to 70 people requiring acute mental health care; 2 x Section 136 suite - place of safety beds and houses the Mid Notts Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment Team (CRHT)


To work as part of a team providing 24 hour cover within reception at Sherwood Oaks Hospital supporting site operations.

Working as part of a team, this individual will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be capable of working without constant supervision.


Working under the line management of the site co-ordinator to ensure effective monitoring and reporting on health and safety of the site.


Providing support to visitors to the site ensuring a positive and safe patient, carer and visitor experience of Sherwood Oaks Hospital.

Key Accountabilities

  • Operation of monitoring equipment
  • Issuing of keys and maintenance of key inventory
  • Issuing of staff safety alarms
  • Control of access to the unit
  • Reception duties in the absence of dedicated personnel
  • Accepting small deliveries and managing incoming/ outgoing mail
  • To advise staff and visitors on the safe use of the Sherwood Oaks site
  • The checking of I.D of all professional visitors
  • To escort professional visitors to their required destination within the hospital
  • Escorting of contractors and maintenance personnel within the unit
  • To maintain logging in and out book for visitors to the site
  • To keep all on call duty rotas up to date
  • To liaise with site staff and respond; in accordance with departmental operational instructions and unit policy; to fire, door or staff safety alarm activations
  • Coordination, charging, issuing and and operation of unit communications equipment
  • To complete site checks and reporting in accordance with operational policy
  • Management of unit transport including Minibus and taxi bookings
  • Post sorting
  • Maintenance of reception area and environment
  • Supporting room bookings for example visiting room and on call doctor room.
  • Manually operate gates to support emergency service/ maintenance vehicles.
  • Provide a "front of House delivery service" to offer information and advice to wide range of customers with different needs hospital staff, patients, professional visitors, carers and contractors
  • Ensure work areas and equipment are kept clean and tidy
Health and Safety

  • To work within the provisions of Health and Safety policy and procedures
Education and Development

  • To participate in appropriate training courses or updates in accordance with mandatory requirements and/or individual personal development plans
  • Access Supervision
  • To attend any appropriate inhouse training
  • To complete key inductions with new staff
  • Supporting site inductions with new staff
Policies and Procedures

  • The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the policies, procedures and practices of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. It is the post holder's responsibility to ensure they keep up to date with these policies and other policy documents.
Communication

  • Always act in a dignified manner with patients, visitors and colleagues, using appropriate language and communication skills, which acknowledge cultural differences and professional boundaries. Maintain high standards of both verbal and written communication.
  • Application of customer care skills
  • Reporting to supervisor/duty coordinator any untoward occurrences
  • Completing IR1's
  • Completion of key inductions with new staff
