    About the Role

    We have an exciting opportunity to join our Corporate Parenting, Children's Rights and Participation Team as a Senior Children's Rights Officer. This role is to lead a team of Children's Rights and Participation Officers to provide a rights based and advocacy service for the children of Leicestershire who are looked after, or who are subject to child protection plans. This role supports key activities of the team including the corporate parenting board, children in care council and celebration of achievement awards. You will be expected to work closely with children and young people, social workers and managers across teams, and other services and professionals. You will work with children or young people in complex situations to support with advocacy and participation. At this time, we want to develop our offer to children and young people and so this is the time for new ideas and developments in promoting advocacy and participation.

    A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

    About You

    To apply for this post, you must must meet the following requirements :

  • Either professional qualification relevant to working with children and families or substantial relevant experience in a child care position working with children and young people in care as individuals and in groups
  • Understanding of child care legislation relevant to advocacy and participation and children's rights
  • Understanding of corporate parenting roles and responsibilities
  • Have strong communication skills and a strong track records of talking to children in a range of settings
  • Experience of supervising staff and providing support to deliver high quality services
  • Ability to right reports and present information in a range of forums
  • Ability to promote participation of young people in a range of activities as part of service development
  • You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
