- time | 25 Days annual leave (increasing to 30 after 4 years' service) plus 11.5 Public and Privilege| Contributory Pension Scheme (employee contributions 5.45% employer contributions %)|**Social Security Scotland is a new public service established by the Scottish Government to deliver a range of benefits, serving over a million clients. As an Information Officer, you will be working within the Information Rights team, a new area within the Data Protection and Information Governance branch. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in data protection and records management, and benefit from various training opportunities to expand your knowledge of data law.


You will be working within a small team that is responsible for ensuring that individual rights are upheld under various data laws.

We work with legislation such as the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act amongst others.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and begin, or expand your knowledge on data law through various training opportunities.

The three main areas of work you will focus on will be

  • Subject Access requests this is the largest and newest part of our workload It is an exciting time to join and help to design processes in this space. A normal case will consist of triaging before responding by gathering information across the Agency using our systems and key contacts to fulfil Article 15 of the UK GDPR.


Disclosures requests - review and respond to requests from law enforcement agencies to ensure information is shared lawfully with them to support their functions.


You will manage a diverse caseload of the above, analysing complex information on a daily basis - being able to pay attention to detail is key You should also be a people person and will have rare access to a wide range of stakeholders dealing with everyone in the organisation from clients to senior management as well as external stakeholders like Police Scotland.

Hybrid Working
We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location. Base office location can be in either Glasgow or Dundee.

Responsibilities:


  • Undertake Data Subject, Freedom of Information and Disclosure requests within the agreed timescales.
  • You will provide advice and support to all agency staff to ensure requests are handled appropriately. The information will at times be very sensitive.
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement to promote and manage Information Rights.
  • Support with overall administration and coordination across the Information Rights space.
  • Delivery of training packages on Information Rights across Social Security Scotland.
  • Assist with continuous improvement in information rights across Social Security Scotland.
  • You will actively manage your learning and understanding of Information Rights legislation, including UK GDPR,
