Description

Mott MacDonald's Climate & Environment team in the International Development Unit delivers projects and programmes for clients such as the FCDO, the World Bank, USAID, and other international institutions.

Our team is looking for someone to support the delivery of our existing portfolio and the growth of our international climate change adaptation and resilience work.


  • The focus of the role will include but not be restricted to the following:
  • Helping develop or strengthen climate-related policies and strategies and alignment to the Paris Agreement and related UNFCCC commitments in existing programmes and to win work that does so.
  • Supporting implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) in low
- and middle-income countries, small island developing states (SIDS) and fragile and conflict affected states (FCAS).

  • Mainstreaming climate change into education, and/or health and/or infrastructure programmes.
  • Building relationships with key clients in the UK and globally to grow our business e.g., FCDO, DEFRA, USAID and MCC.

Key elements of the role will include:

  • Identifying prospects, developing bid teams, and preparing proposals
  • Providing technical inputs on existing projects/ programmes being implemented. These may range from cities and infrastructure to climate finance.
  • Managing projects/ project subcomponents as well as managing clients and subconsultants
  • Supporting the practice to continue to improve our climate adaptation and resilience service offering though articles/blogs etc.
  • Thought leadership and support to external campaigns.
  • Guiding and mentoring junior team members and technically assuring their work.
You'd be part of a truly multidisciplinary team; working across the breadth of Mott MacDonald's sectors, regions, and practices. International travel will be required.

  • Key requirements for the role are:
  • Fluency in English with excellent writing ability
- additional language capabilities will be appreciated.

  • A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Development Studies, Economics or a related field, and relevant work experience.
  • Experience working in an international, multicultural, multisectoral and diverse environment, with a collaborative approach.
  • Experience of working in and with clients and project sponsors in low
- and middle-income countries and/or fragile states is essential.

  • Thorough understanding and experience of international climate change frameworks experience of supporting alignment to the Paris Agreement and ICF KPIs is highly desirable.
  • Experience of supporting the development of longterm lowcarbon and climate resilient policies and strategies in low
- and middle-income countries.

  • Experience of translating NDCs and/or NAPs into programmes, developing industry best practice and guidance on mitigation and adaptation.
  • Experience working with low and/or middleincome country governments, bilateral and multilateral aid partners, international finance institutions, development banks, NGOs, and the private sector.
  • Familiarity with HMG's secondary benefits agenda.
  • Experience engaging and capacity building with multiple stakeholders in developing countries across Asia and/or Africa
  • Strong international network across clients, partner organisations and business groups.
  • Able to review complex documents, summaries and present the key issues in a clear and concise way
  • Aptitude in identification, progression, delivery, and success in tendering for new project opportunities
  • Able to work within a team and motivate others to deliver to high standards
  • Able to meet challenging budgets and timescales
