Job Purpose:


The tactical buyer role is critical to ensuring that the service we deliver to the client through our subcontractors and the supplier facing team exceeds expectations, the role will play a key part in delivering an excellent service to customers.


As a Tactical buyer you will support the delivery of service improvement projects to the allocated customer base, working with the wider procurement team to support and deliver projects on behalf of customers.

You will work collaboratively with City colleagues in both procurement and the business to ensure that the subcontractors are delivering a service that fits our client needs and react in a positive manner.

You will support client specific service delivery as an escalation point within the supply chain.


The role will also support due diligence, onboarding and the handover of new clients into BAU procurement team once the implementation process is complete.


Your position requires a high level of collaboration with the wider procurement team to ensure that projects are delivered in a timely manner and that we are performance managing suppliers effectively.

The procurement delivery team will lead and work with the wider procurement team to support bids for new sales.

The maintenance of an effective supply chain, through partnership and collaboration, is critical. The role will require an element of out of hours support with the supply chain as and when required.


Key Accountabilities:

People

  • Promote an effective team culture across the accounts, aligned to City and client's values.
  • Ensure skills levels and mandatory training needs are maintained.
  • Ensure company policies and practises (e.g., discipline and grievance, absence management, performance management, etc.) are implemented consistently across the account.
Service

  • Support transformation of the supply chains in each of allocated customers, ensuring service levels are achieved through project delivery in problem areas.
  • Support the annual budget review process to achieve financial priorities of the client.
  • Work with the client and national / divisional managers to identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions to improve service and efficiencies in the supply chain.
  • Work with the supplier management team to ensure that performance is being delivered effectively through our supply chain and jointly produce supply chain strategies that will support continual improvement.
  • Deliver small projects and spot negotiations within the supply chain ensuring that these are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Support the supplier management team for client escalations and requests ensuring that issues are investigated effectively, and remedial action and requests are resolved promptly by the relevant part of the procurement team.
  • Support head of procurement delivery and the supplier management team and sourcing team to ensure that the reactive supplier database is fit for purpose and cost effective including supporting the negotiation of rate cards where required.
  • Support the implementation of new customer accounts including the design of implementation plans, cost efficiency tracking, supplier onboarding and key documents are retained and handed over the BAU teams.
  • Support the head of procurement delivery in the driving procurement transformation strategy across all parts of the supplier facing teams.

Financial Responsibilities:


All procurement colleagues have a responsibility to ensure that suppliers deliver a cost effective and valuable service to both the wider city group and to our customers.

The tactical buyer role will support all colleagues support this objective.


People Responsibilities:

No direct team responsibilities, however, a highly collaborative approach will be required to deliver effectively in the role.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • The ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with our client contacts to ensure that expectations are being delivered.
  • Experience of customer facing teams, how we support the customer operationally and procurements part in supporting this effort.
  • An ability to collaborate with all parts of the procurement team to drive delivery on behalf of our customers.
  • A strong track record of delivering results and driving performance improvement.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of commercial acumen.
