Job summary:


The Industry Directorate works on a range of exciting policies from steel decarbonisation, to improving building safety and ensuring the smooth running of our Chemicals sector.

The Directorate works to deliver the Department's vision and make a real difference to businesses and jobs across the UK.


Within that there is a busy and active Director's office team that covers a wide remit including implementing a culture of effective communications between the Director, SMT and the Directorate as well as leading on a host of corporate activity including People Survey response, L&D and coordinating team and directorate development days.

Being a small office means there's always plenty of scope for personal development within the team.


Job description:


The core elements of the role include:

  • Providing high-quality, effective PA and diary support to the Director with a high level of attention to detail and discreet management of sensitive/ personal issues.
  • Handling the Director's inbox and diary, working with Deputy Directors to ensure senior management meetings are delegated where required.
  • Liaising with officials and partners (including Ministerial Private Office and various external partners), communicating clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
  • Coordinating meetings, commissioning highquality briefings, circulating agendas, meeting papers, and taking notes on meetings (occasional and as appropriate) in the timely manner.
  • Acting as an effective inbox gatekeeper, whilst maintaining good judgement and interpersonal skills.
Contributing towards, and leading on, a host of corporate activities across the Directorate.


Hybrid working
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.


Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.


Most DBT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.

If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

Desirable Criteria


We would love to hear from you if you have existing experience as a PA (or equivalent/ similar role requiring strong organisational skills) and will proactively plan and handle your work reliably to deliver priority activities.

We want someone that will work with efficiently and accurately to get things done, showing flexibility when needed and an ability to prioritise and act quickly to adjust plans, while not letting the important but more routine tasks slip.
