Sexual Health Hounslow are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their Health Advising Team as a Band 5 Senior Health Adviser Assistant on a fixed term 12 month contract.

The Senior Health Adviser Assistant will be the point of contact for recalling patients diagnosed with Sexually Transmitted Infections requiring treatment or follow up or partner notification to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts.


  • To manage the results notification service offered to patients.
  • To liaise with the laboratory provider(s) and follow up any results problems or queries.
  • To undertake telephone discussions with patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, to provide information, health education, risk reduction and support by telephone.
  • To undertake partner notification discussions with patients, face to face and on the phone, undertaking provider referral if required.
  • To respond to patients in crisis when they ring the health advisers and assess and refer on where appropriate.
  • To take on project and audit work as negotiated with the Senior Health Adviser.
  • The post will also have a clinical component and the post holder will be required to undertake


asymptomatic sexual health screens including venepuncture, point of care HIV tests and to administer treatment to clients with uncomplicated asymptomatic chlamydia and LGV.


We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East.

CLINICAL PRACTICE

  • To assess individual patient needs and requirements without supervision
To be competent in the following, with appropriate training:

  • Venepuncture
  • Point of care testing
  • Asymptomatic screening
  • Sexual history taking
  • Administering Doxycycline or Azithromycin for the treatment of uncomplicated chlamydia or LGV.
  • To facilitate effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate input into patient care discussions
  • To provide information to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection: how they are acquired, transmitted and treated
  • To provide effective partner notification to ensure contact(s) attendance and treatment as detailed in the PN policy
  • To take an active part in the development and implementation of clinical audit and research
  • To maintain clear and accurate documentation in line with unit and Trust standards
  • To be aware of all the Directorate and Trust Policies and Guidelines and ensure all actions are carried out accordingly
  • To demonstrate counselling skills, including pre and post HIV antibody test counselling
  • To order investigations and provide test results to patients as per clinic protocol
  • To work in an outreach setting or at any of the clinic sites, as required
  • Advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness, with particular reference to smoking cessation, diet, immunization and sexually transmitted diseases and HIV
  • Assess and supports patients with adherence and understanding of their medication
  • To ensure patients are followed up adequately if they need to re-attend for results, treatment or review by letter, phone or through GP or other means.
  • To assist the Recall Health Advisor with the provision of the text results service, result hardcopies, positive lab sheets and recall diary: ensuring that patients with untreated infections are recalled and treated patients are followed up.
