Contract Summary


As part of a strategic partnership between IMG and The R&A, this role will be embedded within The R&A's management structure.


Employed by Seven League, IMG's digital arm, your primary client will be the R&A and you will be a core member of the R&A's commercial team.

You will also be a part of Seven League's wider team, growing your expertise as a digital practitioner in the sports industry.


The R&A is a leading body within the world of golf and engages and supports activities to ensure it is a thriving sport for all on a global scale.

Its responsibilities include governing the Rules of Golf, staging The Open, golf's original championship, and developing the sport.

Each year, the R&A also stages the AIG Women's Open and works with the DP World Tour to stage the Senior Open presented by Rolex.


As Social Media Executive for The R&A, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of social media content and channel management for The Open and AIG Women's Open.


As part of the role you will work with our selected agencies and internal stakeholders to creatively formulate plans and deliver social content year round and during two event weeks.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

As Social Media Executive, you will:

  • Be responsible for managing the social media accounts for The Open and AIG Women's Open
  • Work with agencies to ensure creation, scheduling and posting of social content
  • Help formulate and implement social strategies that align with wider business goals
  • Work with The R&A marketing team to maximise social content opportunities
  • Take ownership of the creation and delivery of social content that aligns to the agreed strategy
  • Ensure social opportunities are maximised for key pieces of content that are created throughout the year, occasionally capturing content through your own means
  • Oversee the production of social assets, from ideation to publication ensuring quality & correct brand positioning
  • Be at the forefront of community management for The Open and AIGWO channels
  • Support other departments in The R&A to ensure optimal output of all assets and messaging
  • Support the delivery of commercial assets & branded content for social media
  • Build a community management plan and track sentiment across social posts
  • Provide regular reporting updates for social performance and other key metrics to the wider team
  • Be required to work occasional weekends and extra hours as required, particularly during The Open and AIG Women's Open when you will need to be available to work the entire week(s)
  • You may also be required to carry out any other duties which are within the scope and purpose of the job.
Knowledge and Experience

  • Indepth knowledge of social media and social media trends is essential
  • Knowledge of and interest in sport is essential
  • Knowledge of and interest in golf is highly desirable
  • Experience working in a social media role or in a wider marketing or journalism role
  • A degree or relevant educational background in journalism, marketing or a similar field is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of branding, both visually and through tone of voice, is highly desirable
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) is highly desirable
  • Past experience of working closely with performance marketing teams on paid campaigns
  • The ability to work in native analytics platforms, including Google Analytics and experience with analytics is highly desirable
Skills and Abilities

  • A proactive approach to the role generating ideas, campaigns and delivering against the social media strategy
  • Skilful and engaging social media copywriting suitable for specific platforms
  • Strong organisational skills and knowledge of social media planning tools
  • Effective communication is a must both with colleagues and external agencies to ensure social opportunities are maximised
  • Skills in graphic design and video programs such as Premiere and Photoshop are desirable.
  • Skills in Excel are essential
Working Conditions

  • This is a permanent position.
  • Please note this role will be based at our London offices in either, Islington or Chiswick or St Andrews, Scotland.
  • Working hours are 9:00 18:00, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility on remote working as appropriate
  • May be required to attend (and travel to) locations, including other IMG buildings and meetings
  • Unsocial hours may be required, as dictated by the demands of the business schedule
  • Adapting to use of new systems and technology where appropriate
