We are looking for an experienced and organised individual to join our specialist treatment planning team here at The Christie.

The post holder will play an active role in the organisation of a busy radiotherapy planning department, supporting the clinical team to provide a high standard of care.

The successful applicant will be hard-working with excellent communication, organisational and IT skills to provide support to this technical service.


The post holder's main responsibilities will be the transfer of clinical data onto our dedicated planning software, as well as routine administrative duties to support the wider Treatment Planning and Clinical teams.

Such tasks include data transfer, booking appointments, answering telephone calls, contacting patients via telephone as well as other administrative duties.

The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year.

We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.

We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year.

Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.


  • General
1.1. The post is full time. Hours are worked flexibly, to cover the normal range of clinical duties
1.2. Liaises with other staff groups to ensure the timely production of completed treatment plans
1.3. Communicates with anxious and sometimes distressed patients concerning appointment changes requiring tact and understanding. Resolve any patient problems concerning treatment planning appointments
1.4. Is responsible for ensuring case notes and relevant documentation is available to planning room staff
1.5. Maintain a daily diary of planning room activities
1.6. Maintains workflow in the planning room on a day to day basis and provide support to planning room staff by analyzing and resolving administrative problems
1.7. Prioritises and manages own work on a day-to-day basis in agreement with the Lead Practitioner and section leader. Some activities will be ongoing
1.8. Is responsible for stock control within treatment planning
1.9. Contributes and assists in the development and maintenance of administrative and organisational processes in the planning room
1.10. Perform routine patient data transfer onto the clinical treatment planning system
1.11. Required to work within the quality system and adhere to the local rules relevant to Radiotherapy
1.12. Responsible for the accurate recording of planning and patient information on computerised systems and the correct filing of patient information in the notes, maintaining confidentiality at all times
1.13. Accurately records meeting minutes where required
1.14. Assists with the maintenance of the quality system
1.15. Uses knowledge of integrated clinical system to produce statistical data
1.16. Undertakes general office duties as required

2.2. Maintains own personal development
2.3. Assist in the orientation of students, physicists and new starters.
