Moorfield's Eye Hospital successfully gained Pathway to Excellence designation in May 2023.

This has created opportunity for a team to be formed to ensure that the work of Pathway is maintained and embedded within the organisation.


The six standards of Pathway to excellence should be seen as best practice to underpin nursing at Moorfield's to create a positive practice environment.


The role will support the facilitation and ongoing support for teams to run Shared Decision-making councils which will ensure that staff feel empowered to have a voice to make change in their place of work.


The post holder will be expected to familiar with the principles of Pathway to Excellence and have knowledge of the programme.

To support teams, trust wide in organising and facilitating shared decision-making councils.

Be visible and available to support teams at their local sites to help run the councils

Create a report monthly on the progress of the shared decision-making councils for upward reporting to the Leadership council.

Responsibilities:


The post holder will:


  • Lead by facilitating staff throughout the organisation to develop and sustain a shared governance culture through education, training, and ongoing support.
  • Identify areas for development and improvement in the shared governance leadership model and be proactive in identifying strategies for change.
  • The post holder will support the lead nurse for safety an innovation to undertake specific duties assigned by the lead nurse for innovation and safety.
  • Lead audit and research and the measurement of the impact of shared governance and shared decisionmaking councils across the Trust.
  • Work collaboratively within the Pathway to Excellence team to lead and develop a model for the implementation and the running of the Shared Decision-Making Councils.
  • Support the wider work of the Pathway to Excellence programme. Ensure that the Pathway to excellence standards are implemented and embedded in nursing and midwifery practice through effective communication skills

  • Act as a role model for standards of care and professionalism
  • Lead and support staff to develop a model of Shared Governance and Shared Decision-Making Councils throughout the Trust
  • Identify training and development needs of individual members of the shared decisionmaking councils and develop, plan, deliver and evaluate training programmes to enable staff to fulfil council roles effectively.
  • Appropriately escalate capacity and capability concerns to the relevant clinical manager and provide ongoing support throughout the process.
  • Provide training and support to facilitate the transition into a model of Shared Governance.
  • Lead staff to interpret practice outcomes and identify relevant development opportunities as they arise.
  • Demonstrate analytical and judgmental skills in working alongside the shared decisionmaking council members to assess issues that may arise and identify strategies to determine the best course of action.
  • Maximise available resources to support the culture of Shared Governance
  • Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines as required.
  • Share good practice and innovation with colleagues internally and externally.
  • Ensure all shared decision council meetings have summary reports completed in line with governance expectations.
  • Promote reflective practice, supervision, experiential learning opportunities in order to develop a learning culture in the clinical environment.
  • Works with clinical leaders to review team composition and obstacles to successfully creating and embedding a Shared Decision-Making approach.
  • Work collaboratively with staff in all areas throughout the organisation to support them to develop shared decisionmaking councils.
  • Develop and maintain a robust communication programme with nursing & midwifery colleagues and key stakeholders.
  • Collate relevant data and information, analysing and evaluating the effectiveness of the shared governance and shared decision making as part of the accreditation process.
  • Lead to ensure improved patient experience remains at the heart of shared decision making.
  • Lead pilot programme to embed patient and family partners within SDM councils.
  • To lead on the shared decision standard of the Pathway to Excellence programme to meet the required standard ready for accreditation and to ensure that the patients are at the centre of care delivery.
