    What we're looking for

    First Entry (FE) operates within Lloyd's Register's Entry into Class division in the Fleet Service Department. The FE process is applicable to all newly constructed ships and other asset types that adhere to Lloyd's Register's Rules and Regulations and are overseen by our surveyors. This includes:

    • Approval and validation of plans against the Rules
    • Verification of materials/equipment at approved works
    • Construction conducted under LR Special Survey

    The main objective of this role is to provide specialized knowledge within the designated discipline on a daily basis and support the Lead Specialist in facilitating the submission of all FE cases to the Classification Committee for formal classification.

    The role

    The primary responsibility of the FE team is to ensure that all prerequisites for formal entry into class for every newbuild are met to the satisfaction of the higher Classification Committee, providing assurance to the Classification Executive Committee.

    In fulfilling this responsibility, the team develops a data model for each vessel, describing the hull and machinery configuration as a 'master record' in the central technical database. This serves several crucial functions:

    • Providing a 'single source of truth' for every vessel in the Lloyd's Register fleet.
    • Defining the hull and machinery Master Lists of Surveyable Items.
    • Facilitating configuration control and enabling effective monitoring of in-service performance of the LR fleet for the benefit of clients and other stakeholders in the safety chain.
    • Provide specialized advice for Entry into Class service delivery offices within agreed broad parameters encompassing safety, technical, legal, and commercial requirements.
    • Produce the Entry into Class deliverable within agreed parameters in an appropriate format, and review colleagues' work as requested.
    • Discuss the Entry into Class deliverable with internal customers and propose alternative solutions where necessary.
    • Perform administration tasks as required in accordance with current processes and procedures.
    • Make recommendations based on internal and external customer feedback to aid in quality and service delivery improvement.
    • Contribute to internal and external customer engagement efforts as deemed appropriate.
    • Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
    • Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain a high level of discipline knowledge and awareness.
    • Assist in coaching other employees to facilitate effective technical knowledge transfer and application.
    • Monitor project milestones against safety, technical, legal, and commercial requirements.

    What you bring

    • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary institution recognized by Lloyd's Register in the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of a two-year program), or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution along with relevant sea-going experience as a certified ship's officer.
    • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
    • Pursuing Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
    • Proficiency in the English language at a level suitable for the responsibilities of the role.
