    Job summary

    This is an excellent opportunity to join the talented gastroenterology team in the largest Trust in the UK to help deliver high-quality care for patients in greater Manchester, and career development as gastroenterologist.

    The candidate must have appropriate experience, competencies, and skills to managed patients independently with the support of consultants in gastroenterology services, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics. It would be expected that applicants would be able to act at the level of a senior registrar/clinical fellow in gastroenterology medicine.

    Main duties of the job

    Carrying out ward rounds on the gastroenterology or outlying wards, for acutely unwell patients, supported by a junior medical teams.

    Delivering endoscopy sessions.

    Delivering outpatient clinics in clinical endoscopy.

    Providing supervision, assistance and instruction to the junior medical staff foundation, GP or internal medicine trainees.

    Working in accordance with GMC good medical practice and appropriate policies of the Trust/Department.

    Communication of relevant clinical information to other medical, technical and nursing staff both within and external to the department, regarding patients referred to other places for further treatment of follow-up.

    Teaching and supervision of medical students, PA students nurses and junior trainees in the department.

    Supporting and developing quality improvement initiatives in accordance with departmental and hospital objectives

    Occasional duties which may arise at the acute trust, major incidents, ensuring adequate ward staffing.

    performing duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultants.

    providing cover for the occasional absences of colleagues as far as practicable.

    Qualifications & Training

    Essential

  • Medical Degree
  • Minimum four years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which must be in Gastroenterology Medicine
  • Previous experience in Gastroenterology Medicine
  • Full MRCP or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • MSc or equivalent
  • Accreditation in diagnostic gastroscopy
  • Accreditation in diagnostic colonoscopy
  • Teaching & Audit

    Essential

  • Experience of Audit
  • Teaching of Junior Medical Staff
