    The purpose of this role is to support the Principal Pharmacist for the Medicine and Emergency Care and Principal Pharmacist Medicines Governance to deliver a safe and effective, patient centred medicines management service.


    Work cohesively with Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician for Surgery, Women and Children (SWC) and Lead Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician for Medicine and Integrated care, providing cross cover for this post holder as necessary.


    Manage and develop the performance of members of the technical team by providing leadership, supervision and education and training for medicines management.

    Have an awareness of medicines management strategies at a national level.

    To have an understanding of the National Patient Safety Alerting Committee, NICE and the healthcare quality improvement partnership and how to implement their guidance and standards to influence medicines management at a local level.

    Promote Medicines Management within the Pharmacy Department, the Division and across the organisation.

    Perform safe and secure medicines audits for Acute Medicine and Emergency Care, embedding medicines management at ward level to ensure that the actions from these are embedded to drive continuous quality improvement.

    Work alongside the Lead Pharmacy Technician for Medicines Governance, ward managers and Matrons to find practical solutions that will enable healthcare professionals create an environment that promotes patient safety.

    Work with the Lead Pharmacy Technician Distribution and ward services with the management of ward stock lists.

    Ensures that Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians are trained to review and amend ward stock lists in accordance with current procedures.

    To support the Lead Pharmacist for Non-Medical Prescribing with the management of Patient Group Directions (PGDs) for Acute Medicine and Emergency Care.

    To be a member of the Pharmacy Department Clinical Quality Focus group.

    Post qualification experience in a hospital pharmacy with evidence of supervisory/lead role within a specialised area of pharmacy
    Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
    NVQ Level 3 or equivalent AND BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy services

    Management or leadership qualification/ training relevant to the NHS

    Knowledge and Training
    Experience of medicines management in a hospital.
    Experience of training staff with a varying level of ability.

    Planning & Organisational Skills
    Able to work during the normal working week, extended hours, weekends and bank holidays.
