A large food manufacturing company are now looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join their team in Manchester
Responsible for:
- Accountable for ensuring site's health and safety management systems are up to date and are compliant with health safety legislation and the companies' Local rules
- Act as a source of information and advice to maintain site statutory compliance.
- Assist with the management of site health and safety projects, training, and risk assessments (RA), working with departmental teams to ensure all are kept up to date and accessible.
- Ensure all health and safety related issues above manager level are reported to the site FGM and Operations Director (OD) as applicable
- Promote Health and safety standards and behaviours by leading by example, coaching others and challenging unsafe practises and behaviour.
- Lead on ensuring the site OHSMS ISO 45001 certification is maintained.
- Provide support to department managers in relation to control of chemicals and CoSHH assessment.
- Ensuring all environmental data e.g. waste, emissions, legislative requirements are adhered to and are correctly reported to the business and externally as required.
- Facilitate annual health and safety ISO 45001 audit ensuring nonconformances and OFI's are documented, and active management of action plans.
- Ensure the necessary legislative requirements i.e. Risk Assessments, COSSH, RIDDOR, Legionella and other health and safety requirements are complied with.
- Assist and progress issues with regulatory authorities on key matters including fire risk assessments, RIDDOR reporting, Environmental reporting and emergency planning.
- Promote a culture that enhances behavioural safety awareness to reduce accidents and near misses. Ensure correct reporting of Near Misses and Hazard reporting on the Safety Management System (SMS)
- Support the sites ESG (Environmental, Society and Governance) compliance by providing information and support on site environmental/sustainability objectives, reporting and projects.
- Maintain the company ensuring the timely input of data is maintained, system training, administration requirements for Incident reporting, Tasks, Audit, Risk Assessment, Reporting modules and system configuration.
- Act as site lead for external auditing and regulatory requirements i.e. Insurance, Environment Agency (EA) HSE, ISO 45001, Noise, Fire, CoSHH auditing.
- Act as the site responsible person for CoSHH (records, assessment, control), CDM, Emergency evacuation, Fire Liaison, waste management performance, PPE control, RIDDOR reporting.
- Ensure all internal auditing requirements as required by ISO 45001 certification through completion of monthly EHS audits as detailed by the audit schedule.
- Act as site 'Lead First Aider', ensuring monthly audits are assigned, completed and recorded in the SMS and all other duties relating to maintaining the first aid room
- Act as lead on Fire marshal / Fire Coordinator duties. Ensuring that the site has trained fire marshals covering all shifts / areas, monthly Fire marshal audits are completed and returned in a timely manner
Person Requirements:
- Hold a NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ, or NVQ Level Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
- Member of IOSH and working towards CMIOSH
- Ideally come from the Food Manufacturing Industry
- Ideally hold an Environmental Management Qualification such as IEMA or NEBOSH
- Hold a First Aid training Qualification
- Ideally hold a LEVEL 2 in Food Safety / HACCP
- Management of asbestos
- Ideally located in Manchester
