Description

The Buyer role will support the Supply Chain Management for L B Foster Rail Technologies in Sheffield, by providing a professional, efficient and customer focused purchasing service.

To control on a day to day basis the processing of purchasing requirements via the MRP system, purchase requisitions, customer orders, material shortfalls, routine and extraordinary enquiries.

and the generation of reports and managing supplier contracts.


Responsibilities:


  • Administer and monitor the MRP system.
  • Monitor stocks levels in line with current stock holding policy and working capital targets.
  • Process Sales Orders with accurate dates in conjunction with material availability.
  • Update the Shipping by Warehouse report during the day as a "live" document in conjunction with the Operations Manager FM
  • Raising purchase orders upon receipt of a purchase requisition. (Visual)
  • The processing and rectification of material noncompliance / returns using the company systems and processes.
  • Expediting purchase orders.
  • Adhering to the purchase orders procedures as described in the Quality Management System.
  • Communicate all issues to immediate manager and/or person requesting material.
  • Update Visual ERP system with current exchange rates for oversees purchases
  • Run overdue reports and follow up with suppliers.
  • Ensure that Products and services purchased for L B Foster are at cost effective rates and from approved suppliers using the processes and procedures laid out in the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure material is available to suit assembly and packing requirements.
  • To work with the Supply Chain Team Lead and sales to obtain accurate pricing for Projects/ Materials
  • To Liaise with Engineering to ensure the correct drawings are sent for manufacture/quoting
  • Work with Central Operations Strategic Sourcing team to identify more cost effective and/or second sources of supply.
  • Participate in regular production meeting and report any issues and advise on expediting activity.
  • To attend Company meetings and briefings and be prepared to report buying /purchasing activities
  • Maintain, support and implement L B Foster guiding principles, values and standards.

Experience:


  • Experience of purchasing in an engineering environment desired but not essential.
  • Knowledge of ERP software databases
  • Experience of an MRP purchasing system.
  • Knowledge of LEAN principles
  • Prior experience within Purchasing/Buying.
  • CIPS desired but not essential
