Qualifications and Training

  • Have taken or commit to a professional qualification related to the role (eg Level 3 Certificate in the Clerk of School and Academy Boards or the Chartered Institute of Governance's Certificate in Academy Governance)
The governance professional must be able to provide solid evidence of the following:


Knowledge , skills and experience**:


  • Demonstrable governance experience or experience supporting boards (ideally in Education)
  • Excellent listening, influencing oral and literacy skills
  • Thoughtful agenda construction and accurate, concise minutes
  • Proven ability to provide seamless support to senior stakeholders
  • IT skills including keyboarding skills
  • Working to tight deadlines; with an ability to maintain high standards of work whilst remaining calm under pressure.
  • Ability to selforganise and manage often conflicting or multiple priorities
  • Organising meetings with a large number of stakeholders;
  • Accurate, comprehensive and robust record keeping, information retrieval and dissemination of governing body data/documentation, to a governing body and relevant partners
  • Research including via the internet to access relevant information
  • Developing and maintaining contacts with outside agencies
  • Knowledge of governing body procedures
  • Knowledge of educational legislation, guidance and legal requirements
  • Knowledge of the respective roles and responsibilities of a Trust Board and senior leadership groups
  • Knowledge of Equal Opportunities, Human Rights and Data Protection
