    We are delighted to offer a Speciality Doctor to join our friendly, ambitious and expanding department which provides a Specialist Palliative Care Service. This is a fixed term post to commence as soon as possible. This is a 10 session Job plan which is inclusive of 1:6 on call.

    The department covers all aspects of Specialist Palliative Care (Specialist inpatient/hospice, community and hospital liaison work) provided by a multi-disciplinary team across the Swansea and Neath localities.

    We would invite candidates from all medical, general practice and surgical backgrounds as we believe that all experience is valuable to Specialist Palliative Care. Previous Speciality Doctors in the department have gone on to higher training in Specialist Palliative Care, have been supported through CESAR applications or have continued to thrive as well valued-Speciality Doctors within the department.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will be required to:

  • Be a core member of the Specialist Palliative Care MDTs
  • Be a core member of the relevant clinical service groups.
  • Undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board Trust's procedures and operating policies.
  • Participate in job appraisal and review.
  • Participate in clinical audit and teaching in conjunction with colleagues across the Health Board.
  • Providing education across a range of professionals supporting the training of specialist and generic trainees of every grade and contribute to the delivery of the foundation core curriculum across the Health Board.

    Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

    We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council Shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies. including an interest in palliative medicine or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable

  • Higher diploma MRCP or MRCGP, Post graduate qualification MA, MSc, MD
  • Experience

  • Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Track record of successful management of change
  • Wide experience in the medical management of patients with palliative care symptoms
