    We have a fantastic opportunity for a Laboratory Test Lead to join our Bristol Site Antennas team.

    You will be joining a welcoming and inclusive team of engineers, as part of the Antenna Core Delivery Team (CDT) working on a range of projects supporting the development and delivery of military communications equipment for a broad spectrum of applications and environments.

    This role gives the opportunity to lead the Bristol RF testing capability and requires hands on involvement in the planning and delivery of specialist testing activities in the support of electronics and antenna product development.

    Key responsibilities

  • Working with project teams to agree test plans and strategies.
  • Planning and scheduling testing activities to ensure project requirements are satisfied.
  • Setting up test equipment (e.g. power supplies, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, network analysers) and following test plans to take measurements with this equipment.
  • General lab management tasks including creating and maintaining the lab risk assessments, checking ESD equipment, performing monthly lab inspections.
  • Overseeing the operation and organising the maintenance of the on-site screened room and near field chambers.
  • Managing the test equipment calibration and records.
  • Keeping records of the local engineering assets under test.
  • Responsible for performing lab inductions and working with our security team to control lab access.
  • Liaising with colleagues at our Yeovil Helicopters site to utilise an antenna test range based there.
  • Integrate basic continuous improvement concepts and techniques for both process and equipment.
  • Skills and Experience

    Required:

  • Experience of managing a lab used for developing and testing electronics products.
  • An understanding of general electronics and RF based test equipment and how to use it to take measurements.
  • An understanding of Electronics design
  • An understanding of antenna basics
  • Knowledge of risk assessment procedures.
  • An understanding of safe ways of working with ESD.
  • Team player with proven communication skills across engineering functions (RF, Microwave, Electronics and Mechanical).
  • Good IT skills and an aptitude to learn new systems.
  • Organisation Skills – Systematic approach to work, with appropriate documentation of test results and related documentation.
  • Hard working, accepting of change and an ability to meet tight deadlines. Willingness to work extra hours if required.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • UK Driving License
  • Desirable:

  • Experience of developing tools to automate measurements (eg. Labview or scripted)
  • Experience working with screened rooms/near field chambers
  • IOSH "Managing Safely" trained or a similar level of qualification
  • An understanding of working with classified material
  • Inherent Factors:

  • Willingness to travel (e.g. to our Yeovil test site).
  • Due to the nature of the role, this role would require on site attendance for the majority of the time.
  • The nature of the programmes involving electronic design require you to be capable of achieving full UK SC security clearance and in addition, you will require the ability to access caveated information such as UK Eyes Only and ITAR
