    Deputy Ward Manager Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool

    Full time position, hours. Fixed Term, Temporary Contract.

    As a result of our transformation plans an exciting opportunity has arisen to workas a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager in the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) and Hotline here at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in the Acute Care Directorate based in Liverpool. CDU and Hotline provides care and support for acute oncology patients. As a nurse within our Directorate you will be able to develop your skills and knowledge in cancer care within our acute oncology emergency admission unit and our nurse led telephone triage service.

    We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals with excellent organisation and communication skills, and ability to lead and drive change. The post holder will be supporting staff and patients within an acute environment and play a major role in supporting the ward manager in future nursing developments.

    The post holder willwork between the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) and our Oncology Hotline Service . This position is for a Band 6 at hours per week. Our opening hours are 08:00-20:30 with the option to work weekend shifts in our Hotline service too.

    On CDU we care for oncology patients suffering from side effects from systemic anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy treatment. This can often mean they are acutely unwell and candidates must feel confident identifying and caring for deteriorating patients. We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and evidence of continuing professional development. The post holder will also posses excellent clinical skills.

    About us

    The Acute Care Directorate is forever developing, our staff have presented nationally and internationally on the services we provide and as a Directorate there are many opportunities for development within the nursing are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join our team at CCC-L CDU/Hotline. The unit consists of 4 patient bays, 4 side rooms and 2 clinic rooms. CDU is open Mon-Friday 8:00am-20:30pm.

    Staff on CDU also rotate into our Hotline service which is a 24/7 telephone triage service for oncology patients on treatment.

    Both CDU and Hotline care for and triage patients who are acutely unwell and suffering side effects from their systemic anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy treatment.

    Job responsibilities

  • To provide clinical leadership ensuring that high standards of quality care are delivered and maintained. The post holder will provide direct patient care and have detailed clinical knowledge of the specialist area.
  • The post holder will work without direct supervision and will take charge of the ward/unit in the absence of the ward manager who holds continuing responsibility.
  • To act as a positive role model within the ward/unit for staff, patients and carers.
  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation the care for patients supporting and guiding junior staff in the process.
  • To provide specialist advice to external agencies.
  • The post holder will enable nurses to acquire clinical and professional competencies by facilitating high quality education and staff development opportunities.
  • Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review process in order to achieve the knowledge and skills identified.
  • Post holders will act as the senior clinical support in hotline assisting junior staff in clinical decision making.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • 1 st level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • NMC approved mentor course/or equivalent Intermediate Life Support Qualification
  • Leadership Qualification / Experience or working towards
  • Working towards or willing to undertake Clinical exam and MP modules at level 7
  • Desirable

  • Chemotherapy Course
  • Advanced Life Support
  • Advanced Communication Qualification
  • MSc modules in Advanced Nursing Practice or working towards
  • Non-Medical prescribing qualification with portfolio supporting attainment of competency
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Knowledge of national standards of, policies and working knowledge of clinical governance
  • Understanding of evidence based practice and ability to critically appraise and implement research findings into practice
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of clinical practice and oncology treatments include treatment side-effects
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant post Registration experience, which should include a variety of specialities such as Oncology, Acute care, Emergency medicine, General Medicine
  • Experience of managing a variety of medical problems including acutely unwell patients
  • Desirable

  • Experience of participation in research and audit
  • Minimum of 5 year post registration experience, 2 of which will be Band 6 or above
