    Brief Description

    To provide a comprehensive Telecomms Engineering support service to the Southern region and various stakeholders, by:
    • taking ownership of the Telecomms assets portfolio,
    • conducting regular assurance assessments to identify maintenance and regulatory compliance needs and requirements,
    • analysing current performance and develop and implement strategies for efficient asset utilisation and lifecycle management, including the provision of technical support and supporting the introduction, evaluation and adoption of new technologies,
    • supporting efficient project development and delivery. Although the successful candidate will be expected to extensively call on their proactive and collaborative nature, as well as their past experiences, this role also provides a fantastic opportunity for a developing engineer. There is plenty of support from an experienced and versatile team in welcoming a new member of staff into the team.

    About the role (External)

    Key Accountabilities

    1.Assist in providing assurance as to whether telecomms engineering maintenance regimes for specific routes are being followed in accordance with company policies, standards and specifications.

    2.Support the provision of a telecomms engineering support service focussed on specified delivery units, but also supporting other delivery units when required.

    3.Support the provision of technical briefings associated with telecomms to engineers in specified delivery units in order that the purpose, as well as the content of standards, specification, etc. is understood.

    4.Monitor the technical competence of engineers associated with telecomms in specified delivery units.

    5.Review and comment on derogation and non-compliance applications to telecomms related standards.

    6.Support the provision of advice and guidance to the delivery unit engineers in the production of business focussed renewals proposals.

    7.Support the provision of telecomms engineering input to the implementation of the maintenance audit programme.

    Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

    Essential


    •HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject


    •Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution


    •Experience in telecomms engineering


    •An understanding of the maintenance of telecomms assets


    •Knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards


    •Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales


    •Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain

    Desirable


    •Degree in a relevant subject


    •Incorporated or Chartered Engineer


    •Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance


    •Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment
