Our vast and rich collections (both print and digital) help us to deliver a world class library and information service for the University of Manchester. We sit at the heart of the University experience for both learning and research and are fully committed to widening access to our expertise, collections and services, through our electronic resources and digital interfaces.

While primary responsibility for AI strategy and implementation lies with the line manager, the successful candidate will contribute to these efforts. This will involve actively exploring ways in which AI can enhance existing workflows, supporting the investigation of new AI products relevant to Digital Preservation and Digitisation, and participating in the integration of AI technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the team.

You will be providing a high quality and user focused service and your great communication skills mean you work equally as well with Library staff, central IT Services and the external suppliers of our services.

Ideally candidates will have good IT skills, including experience of using office software such as MS Word, Excel and email and willingness to extend these as necessary to include work at operating system level. You will also have an understanding of the technical infrastructure of systems and services for creation, management and display of digitised resources and knowledge of metadata issues and standards. Experience of the use of digitisation equipment and the processes involved in digitisation would also be an asset.

As a first element of the shortlisting process, we will assess candidates applications against the person specification in the job description. To make the most effective use of your application, please clearly state what experience you have for each element of the person specification, doing your best to evidence all the essential knowledge, skills and experience.
