FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas liquid transportation and processing system with a nominal capacity in excess of one million barrels per day serving the central area of the North Sea.

Oil and gas liquids from over 50 offshore fields and St Fergus flow through pipelines into FPS. FPS transports crude oil and gas liquids from offshore and onshore entry points, processes the liquids at Kinneil and redelivers to the customer Forties Blend crude oil at Hound Point and either Raw Gas or fractionated Gas Products at Grangemouth


job purpose:


The Operations Superintendent is accountable for the operational support at all offshore and onshore sites of the FPS North Asset.

The program of maintenance and upgrades on the offshore and landline sites will allow the Forties Pipeline System to be operated in a Safe and reliable manner up to 2040+.


principle accountabilities:


  • Adhere to and be responsible for the promotion of Ineos 20 Principles and 7 Life Saving Rules to team, colleagues and external vendors'
  • Engender a culture of continuous SHE performance improvement via transfer of knowledge and sharing of best practice
  • Ensuring compliance with Company performance standards
  • Actively support and promote asset integrity management
  • Ensure safe operations by supporting asset in the management of operational deviations and risk assessment
  • Onshore focal point for the asset operations team
  • Responsible for assuring planning gate compliance.
  • To manage own team and influence wider team to provide proportionate responses to immediate operational challenges and ensure team is proactive in optimising plant, process and short range plans for the asset
  • Ensure effective scheduling, coordination and delivery of key asset operations meetings, including: chairing morning calls, chairing weekly integration meetings, and key member of planning meetings.
  • Management of onshore Synergi actions including ICP related actions.
  • Managing interfaces between system entrants and oil terminal including FPCC.
  • Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis activities to address events/incidents and maximise operational availability.
  • Frontline support of regulatory inspections.
  • To act as primary onshore point of contact for asset team to ensure the onshore support team objectives are aligned with the asset's demands, priorities and targets
  • Carry out frequent site visits and take part in "ascare" audits.
  • Clear communication of objectives and deliverables of the team.
  • Coach own team members to ensure their competency and skills are continually improved and provide performance feedback.
  • Support Operations Manager to promote the concept of collective responsibility to the OIM team to ensure delivery is consistently aligned to the asset strategy

qualifications and technical experience:


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent, or considerable technical experience in a similar role with accreditation from relevant professional institution
  • Mandatory safety, medical regulatory regulations for travel working offshore UKCS
  • BOSIET

Minimum Experience:


  • Extensive operational experience in the upstream oil and gas industry
  • Wide ranging technical understanding of offshore hydrocarbon producing facilities
  • Demonstrates general management skills, drive and performance, delivery focus

Job-Specific Skills:


  • Emergency Response experience desirable
  • Ability to analyse problems, assess risk profile, determine action, and develop solutions, communicating intentions and progress to all levels
  • Able to evaluate full implications of actions on people, profitability, cost and asset integrity
  • Delegate effectively, empowering others to make appropriate decisions for themselves.
  • Prioritises workload carefully, weighing up the urgency and importance of issues
  • Able to work under pressure in high stress situations with an aptitude for clear and logical thinking

Job Knowledge Skills:


  • Working understanding of UK offshore legislation including OGA Production Efficiency Guidelines
  • Fully conversant with all forms of process engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFD's, P&ID's, Data Sheets and Cause Effect charts
